Finnick And Some Other Guys In The Latest Round Of Catching Fire Portraits

You may be saying to yourself, “Wait a second, Gale doesn’t belong in a Capitol Portrai!” But let’s face it, these are really only “Capitol Portraits” because that sounds cool. They’re just movie posters. See what President Snow is wearing and what Finnick may or may not be wearing in his…

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for…

Finnick…looking quite pirate-y.

    Oooh! District 4, represent!

This is probably just me, but Finnick looks like Kilik from Soul Calibur.

See, I’m just not getting it with Sam Claflin. He’s handsome enough, I guess(Gale’s more up my alley) but he’s just not screaming Catching Fire Finnick to me, more Mockingjay Finnick.

I haven’t read Catching Fire yet so I’m wondering if Finnick is *supposed* to look like an adorable pirate?

I’m still not feeling Sam Claflin :/

I think they might’ve cast Finnick with Mockingjay in mind, because it’s easier to fake charisma if that’s an actor’s weak point, I think, especially when we know it is all an act, than it is to fake being utterly broken.

I actually really like what they did with his portrait. It gives me more confidence in his Finnick.

I’m willing to give him a chance, but on characterization and looks alone that’s just not my Finnick..

At first I thought Gale was holding a marshmallow on a stick, ready to roast it over a fire…

    I’d roast marshmallows with Gale.

Finnick…. no. Not seeing the movie because of it… no. Finnick was not a reddish haired pale guy.

    No.

Why is Gale holding a rose? So far, only… spoilery characters have been holding white roses.

  • Rebecca Pahle

I think the roses represent rebellion (except in the case of Snow).

  • Icy

But then, what about… aargh, this is getting really spoilery… certain characters who got some of the earlier portraits?

  • Rebecca Pahle

Good point. If we’re thinking about the same two characters, and I think we are, one of them was, erm, incapacitated before things started to go down, right? And the other really should have a rose, too. (Except I can’t imagine him consenting to hold one. Doesn’t seem his thing, really.)

  • Icy

Even being “incapacitated,” the first does so much so subtly that I feel like a rose is deserved if they do symbolize rebellion. The second character not consenting is a good point!

  • Rebecca Pahle

True. But then again maybe the Capitol IS just giving roses to the on-camera people. It’s not like Gale should technically have a portrait of his own anyway.

  • Icy

    That’s what I was thinking.

Well, he is from the fishing district, and he was used as a boy toy….
