Donald Trump once dined with Bill Maher at the White House. Now he claims the comic ‘went crazy’ and issues a ban: ‘Bill: Don’t call anymore’
He had a lot to say

On October 25, 2026, President Donald Trump wrote a lengthy social media post about comedian and talk show host Bill Maher. Trump referenced Maher’s talk and comedy show, Real Time with Bill Maher, on HBO and HBO Max. He wrote, “Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher. He’s got a Low Rated Show on equally Low Rated HBO, which was once, long ago, a Network of Quality and Excitement — But that’s all gone. It’s not “HOT” anymore!”
Trump also discussed the two times Maher met with him. USA Today reported that their first meeting took place on March 31, 2025, while Poynter 50 reported that their second meeting was on October 15, 2026.
Regarding their first meeting, Trump said he was reluctant to invite Maher to the White House but later conceded after repeated requests from his “friend” musician, Kid Rock, and from film producer and Maher’s friend and business associate, Chuck LaBella. Trump wrote, “He invited himself to the White House! We had our first meeting, Bill was very nervous. He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!”
While addressing their second meeting, Trump discussed Maher’s alcohol consumption habits. “He looked like hell this time. Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House. Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock came along with him,” Trump said in his post. He added, “Overall, I thought it was a good meeting. It didn’t last four hours, it lasted two hours, maybe less, and everybody was happy. We have the timestamps. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time.”
Trump also spoke about the changes in Maher’s behavior he had noticed since their first and second meetings. For the first meeting, Trump said, “After the first dinner, Bill Maher was friendly, I guess, everyone walked away pleased…and then reverted back to his former self, and his old ways. I understand that. He’s doing his thing.” Speaking about the changes he observed after their second meeting, he said, “After the second dinner, Bill’s “show” was far worse than the first. He went crazy! He’s gutless, because he enjoyed every minute.”
Trump also spoke about Karoline Leavitt’s appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher
On October 23, 2026, Maher hosted former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Real Time with Bill Maher. According to TV Insider, the interview marked her first late-night appearance. During the interview, excerpts of which are available on YouTube, Maher discussed a range of topics with Leavitt, some serious and some not so much.
Speaking about Leavitt’s interview with Maher, Trump wrote, “Karoline Leavitt was GREAT on the show, but she started with a biased, dumb SLEAZEBAG, asking questions.” He said that Leavitt “defended” him and herself “well” but “couldn’t be comfortable going against Lie after Lie.” Trump also made a public service announcement directed at Maher. He wrote, “Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless, and tell Chuck LaBella not to call so much.”
Trump called Maher a “hopeless guy” and accused him of trying “to cater” to his “small group of fans.” He also called him a “coward” and alleged that he was “afraid to tell the truth” about “how well” the United States was running.
Trump also threatened Maher with action. He wrote, “I’m going to have the Republicans not cover you anymore, because they try to talk about you as a guy who is transformative. You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser! I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again, because it is nothing more than FAKE NEWS that America, and the World, is unfortunately subjected to.”
A Forbes article notes that, according to Roll Call’s Factba.se tracker, Trump’s post about Maher is the longest among the more than 97,400 posts he has made on social media since 2011. The source notes that this post is nearly twice as long as his second-longest post, 711 words, published on September 30, 2026.
