Her pelvic floor collapsed. Now her organs are ‘serial escapees’ that keep falling out of her body

Liz Holzknecht (@lizholz1) had a pelvic organ prolapse (POP). This condition resulted in many of her organs falling out of her body. Through multiple surgeries, she casually shared on Instagram that some of them had to be permanently removed.

“How many of my organs fell out, and are any of the survivors in danger of joining them?” Holzknecht addressed the question on social media. Despite having gone through a life-altering condition, Holzknecht has been openly sharing her medical journey and lifestyle online.

“For those that don’t know, my pelvic floor collapsed and released all my pelvic organs, so the serial escapees were just the ones closest to the exit routes,” she explained. Holzknecht said that for a while, she had gone through “extremely cursed juggling” of back-to-back surgeries. These procedures were done to keep several organs in her body. Among them, she said her rectum, uterus, tubes, bladder, and intestines have fallen out of her body more than once.

“After years of increasingly complex juggling, we had to start yeeting sh** out of the system. So, eventually, a lot of the troublemakers were granted their freedom,” Holzknecht said. She had to seal her backside, since it became one of the major escape routes for her organs. “But if that wound ever reopens, my intestine will be halfway down the street before I even notice the door’s open,” Holzknecht quipped. Nevertheless, the threat is real for her.

Removing organs that couldn’t stop escaping her body

“My surgeon was able to save my bladder for now, but she’ll almost certainly escape again and is probably the single biggest flight risk,” she claimed.

“It sounds horrifying, and okay, objectively it kind of is, but I’ve been sh****** my intestines since I was five years old,” she said. Holzknecht said that as a girl, she was still trying to make sense of the world when her intestines first exited her body. Regardless, this was Holzknecht’s norm. Similarly, it was the norm for this woman’s family to donate their organs to keep their daughters alive.

“By the time my entire pelvic floor escaped, it was really more of an annoyance than a novel, body horror experience. I would just photograph the escapee and squish it back into whatever hole it came out of,” she said. However, Holzknecht said that her stomach, liver, and kidneys still move around frequently in her body. While these organs have gone down her abdomen, they haven’t escaped her body.

Aside from her bladder, Holzknecht stated that several “troublemakers” were permanently removed from her body. “So, in total, I’m missing my large intestine, all of my a** machinery, my uterus, and my tubes,” Holzknecht shared. Her video went viral on Instagram, with commenters joining in on the jokes.

The internet was terrified on her behalf

One commenter wrote, “Asked her a question and she spilled her guts.” Meanwhile, others expressed concern because Holzknecht was sharing her story while standing up. They feared that her guts might escape her body just because she wasn’t sitting down.

Another Instagram user even suggested, “You HAVE to get into stand up comedy… but maybe sitting down.” It’s not a situation most can laugh about, as Holzknecht shared that she couldn’t even eat and has to get her nutrition infused through her bloodstream. But despite all the organs that escaped her, it seems that Holzknecht has kept her funny bone.
