Woman Marries a Convicted Wife Killer 7 Months After Meeting Him. She Thinks She Won the Jackpot: ‘He Was So Nice, So Passive’
People often share stories from their past on TikTok, especially when they believe those experiences helped change their lives. Some are met with encouragement. Others quickly become conversations about the decisions themselves.
That was the case after one woman @.auntsteph posted a video reflecting on a period of addiction. While she described it as a look back at her mindset at the time, one part of her story quickly became the centre of attention.
As more people watched the clip, the comments shifted away from addiction and recovery. Instead, many viewers questioned a choice she said she knowingly made years earlier.
She says she knew exactly who she was marrying
In the video, the woman tells viewers that she knowingly married a man who had been convicted of killing his first wife. “I married a man that murdered his first wife,” she begins. She then explains that she was aware of his criminal history before they got married.
“So before I ever said I do I knew that he had taken the life of of his first wife.” She says the man spent 19 years in a Texas prison. She adds that they met just one month after he was released and married seven months later. Stories about people who choose relationships with convicted killers continue to attract attention, including the real-life case featured in Jailbreak: Love on the Run.
She says that, at the time, she believed she had “won the jackpot.” She describes him as kind, passive, and genuinely remorseful about what he had done. “He was so nice, so passive, he said all the right things, and he seemed very remorseful for what he had done.”
She says she believed people deserved a second chance because she hoped others would also look past mistakes she had made in her own life. “At that time, I truly believed that people needed and deserved a second chance because I knew that I wanted people to look past some of the things that I had done in my own life.”
She goes on to describe how quickly their relationship progressed after they met. “So he spent 19 years in prison um in a Texas prison and one month out of prison I met him and within seven months we were married and we stayed married for two years.”
“I share this because my mindset was really messed up when I was partying a lot.” She goes on to describe other relationships from that period, including one with a man she says had tattoos covering his face and a fake tattoo beard. “Like not that I’m like a a prize or anything but that was my mindset when I was in active addiction like that was what I was attracted to.”
The comments quickly poured in, with many viewers focusing on the fact that she knowingly married a convicted killer. The conversation echoed growing interest in stories about relationships involving violent offenders, including Should You Marry a Murderer?, which explores the difficult choices people face after learning a partner has admitted to a killing.
Several questioned why she chose to go through with the marriage despite knowing his past. “Why did you think this was a good idea?” one person asked. Another wrote, “Why would you marry him??”
Others said the video’s framing did not match the seriousness of the subject. “I’d say lead with the addiction part.” “It’s not funny. He killed her and you are laughing,” another commenter wrote. Another added, “No matter how bad a man is, he’ll always get a woman to marry.”
