‘Why is He Still in Office?’: Lindsey Graham Suggests Trump’s Next Step is Capture and Control in Case of Iran Deal Failure

Deal? Or no deal?

About ten years ago, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham was a fierce critic of Donald Trump. However, his stance has changed significantly over the years, and repeatedly, he has shown loyalty to Trump and his administration. Recently, he has intensified his support for him and his actions by making comments that some on social media call “violent.”

A video of Senator Lindsey Graham has been circulating on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), in which he discusses how far he believes Donald Trump and the U.S. might go if their negotiations with Iran fail. In the short clip, Graham threatens Iran with severe actions if they refuse to open the Strait of Hormuz, even going so far as to state that the U.S. would “obliterate” Iran if necessary.

Lindsey Graham threatens Iran with severe consequences

According to CNN on June 17, 2026, the United States released the official text of the Memorandum of Understanding, titled “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” which it reached with Iran. The source reveals that the contents of the memorandum were made public after significant public outcry.

Following the release of the Memorandum of Understanding, which includes a notable point on the complete withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Iran, among many others, several people have voiced their opinions. One of them is Lindsey Graham, who, while appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation on June 21, 2026, said that if the U.S. deal with Iran fails, then he believes the U.S. would take the Strait of Hormuz by force. Here’s what he said during the episode, verbatim: “I spent four and a half hours with President Trump Friday. Here’s what I think will happen next. If this deal fails, President Trump is going to take the Straight of Hormuz over by force. The United States will control the Strait of Hormuz. We’ll charge a fee for all those who go through to pay for the operation….And if Iran contests control of the Strait of Hormuz by the United States, we will obliterate them. So to all the people listening, if this diplomatic effort fails, President Trump is going to take the Strait of Hormuz. We’re going to run it.”

Senator Lindsey Graham believes Iran’s capabilities have diminished

On June 19, 2026, Lindsey Graham shared a Truth Social post by President Donald Trump on his X account, in which Trump said he disagrees with those who believe Iran is better off now than it was four months ago. In the post’s caption, Graham, while agreeing with Trump, stated that people claiming Iran is stronger now are insulting the American military and are “delusional” in their thinking, since “the Iranian economy is in shambles.”

Additionally, Graham, addressing Donald Trump, also urged him to “continue to try to find a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear ambitions and other issues” that have “plagued the world since 1979.”
