Virginia Man Crashes Out on the New Packaging of International Delight: ‘There is No Attempt by Corporations to Make Things Better’

The packaging used to be better in the good old days.

Virginia Man Crashes Out on the New Packaging of International Delight 'There is No Attempt by Corporations to Make Things Better'

Scott McJunkin (@skaught85) from Virginia criticized International Delight for the minute changes they made to their creamer’s packaging. The clip went viral on TikTok, with McJunkin arguing that companies are progressively making their products worse for profit.

“International Delight, what are y’all doing? I’m going to start a revolution now,” McJunkin said on TikTok, still wearing a robe early in the morning. He held two bottles of International Delight creamers to the camera, and they looked similar at first glance. But one bottle had the old packaging, while the other sported the new one.

“Look, we are all used to things getting a little bit [expletive] and [expletive], like shrinkflation, AI everything… It’s just—products are getting worse,” McJunkin claimed. He believes his favorite creamer brand has been afflicted by the same problem based on the packaging.

“But one thing I look forward to early in the morning is my coffee, and I take it very seriously. We all have our favorite coffee brands—we all have our favorite things, and mine is creamer,” he continued. McJunkin bought a new bottle of International Delight after his last one started running low, and then he noticed something strange about the new bottle’s lid.

What changed with International Delight?

“My favorite thing about this specific brand is the lid. This, to me, is the absolute perfect lid,” McJunkin said. The older model’s lid used thicker plastic and had a sturdy curve, making it easy for coffee lovers to pour their creamers into the cup. He continued, “I have always enjoyed the design and the feel of this lid.” Then he pulled out the new bottle to point out the changes.

“Same fluid ounces—they are making them skinnier,” McJunkin alleged. He also claimed the plastic packaging and lid of the International Delight Creamer got flimsier. He said, “It feels like those Deer Park water bottles where they’re like, saving on plastic, but they’re like, we’re saving the earth, but they’re really just saving money? That’s what’s happening here.”

Then, McJunkin focused on the new bottle’s lid. The new design had a shorter snout and a harsher edge. They may seem like small changes, but McJunkin is upset about the lowered quality of his favorite creamer’s packaging.

Worsening quality for the same prices

He explained, “It’s an incident that has happened in a long series of incidents, where companies make things progressively [expletive]. And there is no attempt—there is no attempt by corporations to make things better, to make things feel better, for, like, customer experience to be better.” Products are supposed to cater to customer needs, and another influencer found substitutes for Charlotte Tilbury that give the same effect without the hefty price tag. Nevertheless, some brands are disappointing their loyal customer base, as with International Delight and McJunkin.

“And I bet it’s happening now because we’re getting close to the holiday season. Everybody wants to get quarterly earnings reports,” McJunkin continued. He believes someone in the company must have decided to cut costs on the plastic, causing the packaging quality to suffer. He said, “And the only person that does not benefit from that is the customer.”

He raised the newer bottle again and said, “I will always think of this as cheap and just poor, and reminds me of all the ways that I’ve failed in my life.” International Delight did not announce a recall or a plan to revisit the new packaging design.
