Urban explorers claim Ford City Mall security attempted to commit vehicular manslaughter in an unprovoked attack: ‘Easiest lawsuit ever’
A couple of urban explorers say that they were attacked by local security despite claiming to have done nothing wrong. The men, who post videos exploring abandoned urban areas on YouTube, claim they were outside the Ford City Mall, acting “chill,” when a security guard drove up to them and began attacking, culminating in one of the YouTubers being knocked off a scooter by the guard’s SUV.
Urban exploration is a rather popular niche of the internet that many viewers enjoy. While content creators do operate in a grey area when it comes to the legality of what they do, for the most part it is harmless, if a little dangerous to the explorers themselves.
One Urban Explorer, known to hundreds of thousands online as “decayingmidwest,” admitted to trying to find a way into the closed Ford City Mall in Chicago, reports CBS News. “We really like going into abandoned buildings and document them,” he explained. “They leave all kinds of crazy stuff behind. It’s the architecture behind it, the history sometimes.”
However, the explorer, who wished to keep his name anonymous, said he and his friend, who was riding on a scooter outside the mall, were approached by a man claiming to be security. Footage shared online showed the friend on the scooter being chased by security in the SUV before the driver seemingly drove into the explorer on purpose, knocking him to the ground.

The clip went viral on Instagram, with viewers claiming that the security guard went too far and that decayingmidwest and his friend could have legal grounds to sue the security guard. “Time to sue. I woulda called the police. Bro woulda went to jail right away,” wrote one commenter.
In fact, most of the comments actually pushed for the urban explorers to take the guard to court: “Bro if you don’t sue your [sic] the biggest SISSY on the net,” one person wrote. Another claimed that it would be the “easiest lawsuit ever.”
Another video, posted by decayingmidwest, showed the same security guard seemingly failing to do his job properly. He is seen pulling up, reaching into the back of his car, and allegedly attacking the YouTuber. “Then he just beats me,” he claims, adding, “I had to run through the bushes.” He also claimed to have been injured by his interaction with the guard.
The YouTuber claimed that they had not entered the mall and that he and his friend were “just riding around on Lime scooters, acting all chill.” He also said that the guard did not say a word to him. Once again, viewers claimed that the YouTubers would have a solid case if they decided to sue the guard.
The creator claimed they contacted Chicago police, who told him “they were gonna try to find him but then just left.” According to CBS, nobody had been arrested.
