On Wednesday, Mike Johnson was grilled by a Fox News reporter after he blatantly lied about Trump’s involvement in ending the partial government shutdown that had severely impacted the Transportation Security Administration.
While the reporter stated that Trump had shot down the plan to end the government shutdown and questioned Johnson about why Trump wasn’t involved in the process, Johnson tried to claim that the information was hearsay. However, the reporter quickly responded and said that Trump had indeed said he rejected the plan to end the shutdown, leaving Johnson momentarily puzzled and speechless.

A video is going viral on social media, including X (formerly Twitter), showing Speaker Mike Johnson struggling to keep up with the lies he’s telling about Donald Trump. A Fox News reporter asks if Trump is involved in trying to end the government shutdown that has brought America to a halt, as several TSA workers are now unpaid and some have quit. Johnson answered somewhat affirmatively, but the journalist called him out, stating that Trump had shot down a plan yesterday that would effectively end the shutdown.
After that, Johnson tried to claim the news about the plan was fake and being reported as such, but the Fox News reporter immediately corrected him, saying Trump had said the same thing earlier in the Oval Office. Johnson then attempted to hide his lie by pretending to have a “quote” from Trump, claiming it was somewhere in front of him. He paraphrased what he believed Trump had said, suggesting that Trump was delaying a decision because he was “cynical” about some developments in the department.

Donald Trump made it very clear in a Truth Social post on March 23, 2026, that he was unwilling to have productive talks with Democrats that might end the partial government shutdown. However, he noted an exception: he would be willing to negotiate if Democrats helped Republicans pass the SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act.
In his post, he wrote, “I don’t think we should make any deal with the Crazy, Country Destroying, Radical Left Democrats unless, and until, they Vote with Republicans to pass “THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.” It is far more important than anything else we are doing in the Senate, and that includes giving these same terrible people, the Dems (who are to blame for this mess!), a Five Billion Dollar cut in ICE funding, a deal which… is unacceptable to me and the American people – UNLESS it includes their approval of Voter I.D., (with picture!), Citizenship to Vote, No Mail-In Voting (with exceptions), All Paper Ballots, No Men In Women’s Sports, and No Transgender MUTILIZATION of our precious children.”
