Welcome Archie fans, old and new. TMSers Keisha Hatchett and Charline Jao will be here every week to talk about Riverdale, the CW’s adaptation of the classic comic. If you haven’t already seen the first episode, head here and then return to this post because there be spoilers afoot. If you have, proceed and don’t forget to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Chapter One, titled “The River’s Edge,” serves an an introduction to recognizable characters sporting some interesting twists. Betty Cooper is still the “good girl” of the bunch but she’s also a stressed out overachiever possibly addicted to Aderall. Veronica Lodge remains the edgy rich girl, but seems to have a few skeletons lurking in her closet. Archie remains the all-American redhead but now he’s hooking up with his music teacher, writing deep song lyrics and getting rejected by Josie and the Pussycats. Speaking of those awesomely talented women, the group has one visible change—all of the members are black. But they still kick butt and we hope to see more of them.

One thing we didn’t favor was seeing so little of Jughead who may or may not be canonically asexual in this version. Cole Sprouse, who plays the crown hat wearing teen, says he’s all for it.

There was plenty to talk about so be sure to check our our review in the above video. What did you think of the first episode? Loved it? Hated it? And who do you think killed Jason Blossom?
