Things We Saw Today: Sammus’ Amazing New Music Video for “1080p”

We love Sammus around here. That’s for real. As I said a long, long time ago (in an old TWS, even): “I couldn’t help geeking out at a few of her lyrics, rife with video game and rap references.” She takes a step back from the video game references and NES beats here, baring her soul and rapping about, as the video description says, “the highs and lows that have shaped her life since dropping her last album in 2014.” It continues, “Ultimately this revealing song is an important testament to the power of seeking help and prioritizing one’s mental health above all. The message is clear: if you need help, do not suffer in silence.” (via Twitter DM/@thedoubleclicks)

  • Apparently a new iteration of an AI called AlphaGo beat one of the top Go players in the world today, signaling a significant step forward in artificial intelligence development. Today Go, tomorrow the world. (via LiveScience)
  • Kung Fu Panda 3 will be the first movie shown in Mandarin within the U.S. The participating locations include theaters in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Columbus and the Bay Area in Northern California. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

    • Whatever the hell is happening in this 14-page fan comic created by Stephen Byrne… I can’t get enough. Titled Star Wars Episode 7.5, it features our favorite crew beating up baddies and getting into even more ridiculous situations. There’s just… you need to read it.
