Edgar Wright’s brilliant Stephen King adaptation is heading to digital

Edgar Wright and Glen Powell joined forces to make movie magic earlier this year with The Running Man. Not only did it adapt Stephen King’s fan-favorite novella in a whole new way (and far beyond the 1987 adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger), but it delivered plenty of high-octane action and fun… and now, you can experience that at home.
As of this morning, Tuesday, December 16th, The Running Man is now available to buy or rent on digital platforms. This includes Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more. Prices for the rental or purchase vary by platform, but Amazon Prime’s is currently at $19.99.
While this isn’t the only way to engage with The Running Man at home, as it will be available to stream on Paramount+ at a later date, it does provide an opportunity for those who want to watch or rewatch the film ASAP. It also includes a slew of bonus content (over two and a half hours worth), including a commentary track from Wright, Powell, and writer Michael Bacall, and a number of featurettes and in-universe ephemera. This includes commercials, interstitials, contestant self-tapes, and episodes of Speed the Wheel, The Americanos, and The Apostle. I, personally, am excited to see those commercials and interstitials in all of their glory, beyond how they were briefly shown in the film.
The Running Man follows a fun, unhinged deadly game show where contestants must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Working class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is coerced into the competition by the show’s ruthless producer (Josh Brolin). Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into a fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. The cast also includes Colman Domingo, Katy O’Brian, Jayme Lawson, and Lee Pace.
The Mary Sue is helping celebrate the occasion by giving away a free digital code of the film. To participate, you just need to be following The Mary Sue on both Instagram and X, and tag three friends in the comments of our post.
