A prankster has seemingly modified a Harry Styles' poster with silicone lips, and fans are serving side eye.
Evidently, we can kiss the era of normal promotional material goodbye, as Harry Styles‘ face has become the centerpiece of a bizarre street poster modification that seemingly lets passersby get closer to the singer than anyone probably expected. Oversized three-dimensional lips have been attached over Styles’ mouth on posters, and footage of the extremely kissable additions has left numerous Reddit users asking one important question: Why?
The unusual poster features a close-up image of Styles with realistic protruding lips placed directly over his mouth, allegedly added by a prankster. Videos circulating online show people touching the allegedly fan-added modifications, effectively turning an otherwise ordinary celebrity poster into something resembling a public kissing booth.
The footage recently resurfaced on Reddit’s r/Weird, where a post showing the lips attracted more than 22,000 upvotes. While some commenters were understandably preoccupied with how strange the entire thing looks, plenty of others immediately arrived at the same, slightly more concerning destination: How many mouths have touched those things? Styles’ fans may share the same taste in music, but perhaps sharing silicone lips is where the line should be drawn.
Reddit Would Like Everyone to Stop Kissing the Wall
“Imagine taking a walk and suddenly seeing some random person making out with a poster of you,” one commenter wrote, earning more than 2,000 upvotes. Another skipped directly to the potential hygiene problem, declaring, “That is so not sanitary.”
That sentiment quickly became something of a theme. One person asked, “Do you want mono? Because that’s how you get mono,” while another simply warned, “Don’t kiss it!” Others jokingly predicted everything from a herpes outbreak to a zombie outbreak.
Then came the pandemic jokes. “Well we know where the next pandemic starts,” one Redditor quipped. Someone else asked, “Are they trying to start another pandemic?” while another apparently had flashbacks to the last few years: “Did we learn nothing from the pandemic???”
For clarity, Reddit jokes aren’t evidence that anyone actually contracted an illness from kissing one of the posters. They do, however, demonstrate just how quickly the internet collectively looked at a pair of public silicone lips and reached for the metaphorical hand sanitizer and spiritual COVID booster. If anyone does decide to kiss the silicone lips, it runs the risk of going down in history as one of the most controversial kisses on the internet.
Even Some Redditors Wished It Was AI
The poster was strange enough that some viewers questioned whether it was even real. “This has to be AI, there’s no way this is real,” one commenter wrote. Another responded with perhaps the strongest review imaginable: “For once, I’d be happy if this was AI.”
A Redditor claiming familiarity with the installation offered some additional context, saying it had originally been “a normal poster before a prankster added the lips” and that the modified version had already been taken down. Without confirmation from Styles or his team about who installed the lips, it’s safer to say someone gave his poster a rather unsettling three-dimensional upgrade than credit the singer with the idea himself.
Perhaps the entire phenomenon can be summarized by one Reddit user who said, “It’s a sign of the times.”
And the times are clearly showing signs that the pandemic of being unhinged is still thriving. For everyone else, Styles’ poster has unexpectedly provided a useful reminder that just because something has lips doesn’t mean you have to kiss it.
