Ten years on, Kim Kardashian gets exactly what she asked for in the ‘grandpa robbers’ case

All about the principle.

A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian 1 euro in compensation for the armed robbery she experienced back in 2016. This symbolic amount is exactly what the celebrity requested from the court. According to ABC News, the decision arrived on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone in a legal saga that has spanned a decade. It reflects a desire for accountability rather than a quest for a financial payout.

The robbery took place at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week on October 2, 2016. Kardashian was staying at the hotel when the group targeted her. Two of the robbers disguised themselves as police officers to gain entry to her suite. They proceeded to bind Kardashian with zip ties and tape. The thieves made off with more than $6 million in jewelry, including a diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy show earlier that night.

The group of perpetrators earned a unique nickname in France due to their advanced age. They became known as ‘les papys braqueurs’, which translates to the grandpa robbers. Six of the individuals involved were in their 60s and 70s when they finally faced trial for their roles in the heist. The charges included armed robbery, kidnapping, and gang association.

A court found eight people guilty for their roles in the crime last year

None of the convicted individuals returned to prison after the verdict, as their sentences were covered by time already served in pretrial detention. Furthermore, none of the defendants chose to appeal the court’s decision.

Kardashian has been very vocal about the toll this event took on her life. She previously described the incident as “the most terrifying experience of my life.” She noted that the crime left a lasting impact on her and her family.

In a statement issued after the recent ruling, she expressed that she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case.” She also mentioned that she remains committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system.

The legal proceedings involved many others too

Simone Bretter, who was Kardashian’s stylist and was present during the robbery, also requested and received 1 euro. A joint statement from Kardashian and her stylist stated, “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.” They expressed hope that this ruling allows them to move forward and continue to heal.

Other parties involved in the incident received different amounts from the court. The hotel itself was awarded 50,000 euros, which equals about $57,741. A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès received 109,516 euros, or approximately $126,472. The receptionist had sought 550,000 euros in damages and interest, claiming he was traumatized by the event. His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, welcomed the decision as a victory for his client.

Kardashian has spoken openly in the past about how the robbery changed her perspective on security. She has had to adjust how she approaches her daily life and how she displays expensive jewelry. The process of testifying against the crew responsible for the attack required her to return to Paris, which was a difficult step in her recovery.

The court ruling follows a separate security incident that occurred closer home for Kardashian

According to Complex, in August, a 27-year-old man was arrested after allegedly burglarizing her property in Hidden Hills. The individual reportedly stole valuables and took one of her vehicles for a brief joyride. Kardashian and her children were not at the residence at the time, as the house was undergoing renovations.

It is clear that the 2016 robbery remains a defining moment in her history. By requesting only a single euro, Kardashian has signaled that her goal was the formal recognition of the harm caused by the criminals. This approach focuses on the principle of the matter rather than the monetary value. The legal system has now officially closed this chapter, allowing those affected to seek closure.

The French lawyers representing Kardashian during the trial did not respond to requests for comment regarding the final award. The court’s written decisions were read to the Associated Press by a lawyer involved in the case. This concludes a long and arduous process for everyone involved in the 2016 heist. It is a moment of finality for the victims who have spent years navigating the French legal system.
