Sydney Sweeney Uses Her Bras in Latest Publicity Stunt

Sydney Sweeney has made a lot of headlines over the course of the past year, often for reasons that have nothing to do with her acting in buzzy movies like The Housemaid. The trend is already continuing this week, thanks to a viral marketing stunt to promote the launch of her upcoming lingerie line.

TMZ has acquired footage of Sweeney and a video crew scaling to the top of the Hollywood sign under the cover of night earlier this month. In the video, once they reach the monument, Sweeney strings a clothesline of bras up to the “H” of the sign, before standing back and admiring her handiwork.

Sweeney’s lingerie company, which still is publicly unnamed, has been speculated about for months now, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reportedly among the investors of it. But the legality of the stunt itself is now being talked about more than the actual company, as Sweeney and her crew apparently didn’t have permission to actually touch the Hollywood sign.

“Please be advised that the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce owns the intellectual property rights to use of the image of the Hollywood Sign and neither you nor the production company have sought or received permission to use the images captured for any commercial use,” a leaked email from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce reads in part. “We understand that you received a film permit from FiImLA, whose staff assures me that you were notified of the requirements to seek a license from the Chamber prior to your shoot. Please contact me so that we can discuss this and work to reach an agreement on your proposed use of our IF.”

If the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce chooses to press charges, Sweeney and the crew could reportedly be brought up on counts of criminal trespassing and/or vandalism. It is unclear at this point if that will happen, much less what the consequences of those charges would be… but there’s an argument to be made that fallout of that could just result in more free publicity for Sweeney’s lingerie line. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
