Sir Tom Jones Lashes Out at ITV After Being Axed From The Voice, Calling Out the Network for Their Insulting Replacement Offer

While the show is preparing for its 2027 series, Sir Tom has made it clear that he did not want to leave the program because he genuinely loves the work involved in mentoring new talent. The news broke following widespread rumors regarding the future of the coaching panel, and Sir Tom eventually took to social media to set the record straight about his departure.
He explained that while the broadcaster had supposedly decided on this path a while ago, he was only informed of the decision recently. It is quite a blow for a performer who has dedicated so much time to the show over the last decade, and it is clear that he is not taking the news lightly. In a candid post shared on social media, Sir Tom revealed the specific reasons he was given for this change. He stated, “The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance.”

He added, “They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me.” It is difficult to digest that a performer of his stature, who has been a staple of the show since its inception, is being moved aside due to a desire for a fresh look.
The network reportedly attempted to soften the blow by offering him a reduced role. Sir Tom explained the proposal, noting, “They are offering a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I’m not thrilled about that.”
After years of building deep connections with contestants and helping guide their careers, being relegated to a minor, occasional appearance is a far cry from the full-time coaching role he has held for so long. He did not mince words regarding the situation, stating, “So the only thing I know right now is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”
ITV has addressed the situation through a spokesperson, who said, “We have loved working with Sir Tom Jones over the past nine years on The Voice UK. While he will no longer be a full-time coach on series 15, we continue to talk to Sir Tom and his team about his involvement in the next series.” Despite this statement, the reality remains that the iconic red chair he occupied will be filled by someone else for the upcoming production.

The Sun reported that rapper Aitch is set to join the lineup, replacing the McFly duo of Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones. This shift in personnel is part of a broader strategy by ITV to bring a new energy to the competition. A source familiar with the situation commented, “Everyone loves Sir Tom but there was a feeling that the upcoming series needed a major refresh. With Aitch and Cheryl coming on board and Kelly returning with will.i.am, there just wasn’t a seat going.”

Throughout his lengthy tenure, Sir Tom has mentored three winners, including Leanne Mitchell in series one, Ruti Olajugbagbe in series seven, and Anthonia Edwards in series 11.
