The King in the North is about to make his way to a different North: Canada. Actor Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, has been cast in one of the leads in Klondike, where he’ll play a 19th century gold digger who ventures up to the Yukon territories to seek his fortune.

The six-hour miniseries is the first original scripted program by the Discovery Channel, which apparently saw the success AMC and, more recently, the History Channel has had with similar shows and decided “Yeah, I want to do that!” Madden is one of a list of cast members who are either “set or in negotiations” to join the project; others include Abbie Cornish (RoboCop, Sucker Punch), Augustus Prew (The Borgias, Kick-Ass 2), Tim Roth and Tim Blake Nelson (It’s an Incredible Hulk reunion!), and Chris Cooper.

Per Deadline:

Based on Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich In The Klondike, the mini tells the story of six strangers and their collective fight for survival and wealth in a small, frontier town in the remote Klondike… Klondike centers on childhood best friends Bill Haskell (Madden) and Byron Epstein (Prew) who head west in 1897 to seek their fortune in the Yukon Territories during the gold rush, where they face a harrowing journey of adventure, excitement and danger at every turn.

Might want to keep some obsidian about your person, guys. Just sayin’.

And good for you, Richard Madden. After all [major spoilers for season three of Game of Thrones] it’s not like you won’t have room in your schedule post-season three..
