Oh so ‘Weapons’ is going to be MESSED up in the best way

The new Zach Cregger film Weapons is the director and writer’s follow-up film to the hit Barbarian. And the newest trailer for it gives fans a little bit more information about the film and it is going to be a doozy.

Barbarian made us afraid of ever staying in an Airbnb, or at least one with a locked door you can’t get into. Now, Weapons is setting us up to be afraid of multiple things all at once. The story follows a small town when one classroom of children suddenly disappear and their teacher is put to the fire to try to figure out what happened.

Weapons synopsis is as follows: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.” And with that mystery comes an all-star cast as well! The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.

What is absolutely terrifying about the new trailer is that we still don’t know much about the plot but we have new added mysteries to solve. Like all the adults now standing and getting ready to jump? Blood on faces? There’s a lot going on here and all of it makes me that much more excited to see what Cregger is cooking up with it.

A fitting follow-up to Barbarian

If you haven’t seen Barbarian yet, what are you doing? Cregger’s directorial debut takes us into an Airbnb that tests each person within its walls. When a young woman ends up having to share an Airbnb with a stranger, she doesn’t know who to trust. One of the more fascinating things about the movie, however, is how it subverts our expectations of these characters and makes us second guess what we think we know about them.

With the little information we have on Weapons, I hope that we get to have a similar experience with the film. Not in the same twists kind of way but the beauty of just being surprised by a horror film again.

Weapons is in theaters on August 8.
