18-year-old faces $5 million bail after alleged revenge killing. Then blows a kiss to the courtroom gallery as the victim’s mother watches

An 18-year-old murder suspect reportedly blew a kiss toward a courtroom gallery after a judge set his bail at $5 million. The gesture came during proceedings over the fatal shooting of a teenage boy at a parking garage in Tacoma, Washington.
According to Law&Crime, Jose Campos, 18, appeared in court on October 21, 2026, alongside his brother, Davion Campos, 20, and Davion’s wife, Alina Guillen, 19. All three are charged in connection with the October 18 shooting death of 16-year-old Josiah Midgyett. They have pleaded not guilty.
During the hearing, Midgyett’s mother reportedly urged the judge to deny bail. Prosecutors also pointed to an incident that allegedly occurred the previous night, which investigators suspect may have been connected to the shooting.
The trouble may have started the night before
According to the report, Midgyett’s mother asked the court to keep the defendants in custody during the bail hearing. “I would just like no bail. Yes, ma’am,” she said. Speaking about her son, she added, “My son didn’t deserve this. He was a good kid.”
Prosecutors requested $5 million bail for each Campos brother and $1.5 million for Guillen. The judge granted those amounts. As Jose left the courtroom, he blew a kiss toward the gallery, as shown in KIRO 7‘s courtroom footage. It remains unclear whom the gesture was directed toward.
The shooting occurred around 2:23 a.m. on October 18, 2026, inside a parking garage at 1100 Commerce Street in Tacoma. Police found Midgyett on the fourth level with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charging documents allege that as many as five armed suspects arrived at the garage and opened fire on a group that included Midgyett and his friends. Prosecutors said the suspects carried an AK-47-style semiautomatic handgun known as a “Draco,” along with other firearms. Witnesses reported that several attackers wore masks.
Midgyett was reportedly shot while trying to enter a vehicle with a friend. That friend told investigators that Midgyett had received a text message from a girl about a “meet up” at the garage. Authorities have not established whether the message was connected to the attack.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been retaliation for an incident approximately 24 hours earlier, when Jose was reportedly shot in the hand. During the hearing, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Wagner pointed to his bandaged arm while explaining the suspected motive. “As you can see from the arm, this defendant was the one who was shot the night before, which leads detectives to believe that this was a retaliatory shooting,” Wagner told the court.
However, investigators have not established whether Midgyett had any connection to Jose’s earlier injury. Wagner suggested the attack appeared deliberate, stating, “This certainly seems to be a planned execution.”
Prosecutors alleged that Guillen drove the vehicle that transported the suspects to the garage and helped them leave afterward. Surveillance footage reportedly did not show her carrying a firearm. Her exact role remains subject to the criminal proceedings.
Investigators used witness statements, surveillance recordings to identify the defendants and Facebook photographs to build their case. Police allegedly matched a blue puffer jacket worn by Davion in a Facebook photograph to clothing visible in surveillance footage. They also compared photographs of Guillen with images captured at the garage.
Jose faces first-degree murder, nine counts of assault, and firearms charges. Davion faces first-degree murder, assault, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Guillen faces murder and assault charges.
On October 21, police arrested a fourth suspect, a teenage boy, and booked him into Remann Hall on suspicion of first-degree murder. His identity has not been released. Authorities have not confirmed whether additional suspects are being sought.
