NYC barista tells a celebrity her coffee order is wrong. Then he realizes his mistake after she leaves: ‘Keep em humble’
I'm Levitating

When you live in New York City, it is pretty normal to bump into celebrities. However, sometimes they may come knocking at your door (well, not exactly). Sawyer Whitted (sawyer.whitted), a barista working at a Third Wave coffee shop in New York City, said in a TikTok video that he once corrected the coffee order of a celebrity who visited the shop without realizing who they were.
Speaking of the incident, Whitted said that he was having a very busy day when this celebrity came to the shop and ordered an iced cappuccino. “‘Just so you know, they are actually gonna call it iced latte. Because here an iced cappuccino and an iced latte are the same thing,’” Whitted said, recalling what she told the celebrity at the time.
“So I corrected this woman. And not, again, not realizing who she was,” Whitted added. Then came the moment of truth. Whitted said that when he was interacting with this person, his coworkers were all silent, and after the person had left, they told him that the person was Dua Lipa. “Dua Lipa. I was a bi*** to Dua Lipa,” Whitted said towards the end of his video.
“How does someone not recognize Dua Lipa”
Whitted’s video received over 200 comments, and some viewers expressed confusion over his narrative while some appreciated his move. One person said, “How does someone not recognize Dua Lipa.” Another person wrote, “I mean I’m sure she appreciated it lowkey bc in NYC no one’s fawning over celebs like they do in LA. That was a pretty normal NYC encounter with a celebrity.”
A few people went into elaborate discussions about coffee, especially over whether iced cappuccinos were legitimate. One person commented, “Cappuccino and latte have different milk to espresso ratios, when I ask for an iced cappuccino it’s because I want less milk than a latte. It’s def a thing.” Another remarked, “But lattes have more milk, so why would capp and latte become the same when iced? Just curious.”
In his video, Whitted credited Starbucks with originating the concept of iced cappuccinos. Commenters took note, with some sparking debates about whether Starbucks offers this item on its menu. One person commented, “Starbucks doesn’t have an iced cappuccino….” Another person said, “As a former Starbucks employee we did not make that a thing we were just as confused as everyone else when people started asking for that.”
A few people mentioned that it was Dunkin’ that was selling iced cappuccinos and not Starbucks, like Whitted claimed. “It’s not Starbucks you’re upset at, it’s dunkin,” one person said. And they are in fact correct. A simple Google search reveals that Dunkin’ does, in fact, have iced cappuccino on its menu. Starbucks, on the other hand, doesn’t list an iced cappuccino on its official menu, but baristas can still make it for customers upon request. The menu, however, does have iced latte.
Whitted might have been wrong in pinpointing who popularized iced cappuccinos, but his experience still holds value. Encounters like his are rare. As one commenter put it, “Keep em humble.” Well, Whitted seems to be simply doing just that.
