Man gets added to random family’s group chat by mistake. Then accidentally instigates drama

A group chat involving extended family is bound to be chaos, and that’s exactly what one man found when he was added to one. The incident was shared on TikTok by Cornelious (@corneliousfigglebottom), who claimed he was mistakenly added to a family group chat, witnessed a relative’s affair drama unfold, and accidentally sparked new drama himself.
“I accidentally got added into somebody’s group chat,” Cornelious said in a video that has since gained over 849,900 views. According to Cornelious, the incident happened two months prior, and while he had planned to immediately leave the group, he supposedly decided to stay when a family member mentioned a relative’s affair.
“Somebody said that Uncle Roy’s wife caught him cheating again,” Cornelious said. “So I obviously stayed.” Based on the family group chat, Cornelious surmised that Uncle Roy told his wife that he was getting dialysis, despite not actually needing it. “I don’t know the wife either. But just from her little contact picture, I’m on her side,” the TikToker said.
Uncle Roy is allegedly cheating on his wife
For the next few days, Cornelious observed the family group chat and tried to gather as much context as possible from the existing messages. Cornelious claimed that Uncle Roy’s wife would send screenshots about the affair, but his sister would deny the photos and tell her they were fake. “And then the wife had sent a picture of Roy sleeping with somebody else’s bonnet on,” he said.
Eventually, Cornelious spoke up and made himself known in the chat, only for the family to remain unaware that he was a complete stranger. “I replied to the pictures, and I was like, ‘Yeah, that looks pretty conclusive,’” he said. “Nobody knows who I am, but they just started liking my messages.”
Cornelious alleged that he even told Uncle Roy’s wife that she shouldn’t let him keep the house in case they divorced. However, that simple statement seemingly opened a can of worms. As it turns out, Uncle Roy and his wife didn’t own a home, which started another argument because Uncle Roy had been lying about owning one.
The group chat devolved into chaos, according to Cornelious’ account. At one point, Uncle Roy left, only to be added in again. “Then somebody changed the group chat name to ‘Tell the truth, Roy.’ And at this point I’m not entirely sure about who exactly added me, but his wife invited me to Thanksgiving,” Cornelious said.
Family invites him to Thanksgiving dinner
According to Cornelious, Thanksgiving dinner is likely to have drama, with Uncle Roy apparently bringing his affair partner, while his wife would be introducing her new boyfriend. “I am personally bringing mac and cheese,” Cornelious said before concluding, “They still think I’m Anthony, and at this point, I’m not correcting them.”
While it can’t be confirmed whether Cornelious’ story actually happened, viewers were entertained by the family’s dynamics. “You better not be lying, I just followed you,” a viewer joked. Another added, “Why does stuff like this never happen to me ??” Others even shared they were in the same predicament, saying, “I’ve been in family group chat for yyeeeaarrss I don’t have the heart to tell them I’m not their uncle.”
Some viewers joked that he was the “evil version” of Jamal Hinton, a person who became viral in 2016 after accidentally receiving a Thanksgiving dinner invite meant for someone else from Wanda Dench. Unlike Hinton and Dench, whose accidental text resulted in a yearly Thanksgiving tradition between the two, Cornelious’ motives are less wholesome, as he is likely interested in witnessing the drama in real time instead.
A viewer who claimed to have a brother named Roy, who seemingly believes that the family in Cornelious’ story was about theirs, even spoke up in the comments. “My brothers name is Roy. He has a wife. They have a house AND they live in Vegas!! Go to Thanksgiving please,” the viewer said. Likewise, viewers are anticipating how Thanksgiving dinner with Uncle Roy’s family will unfold. But for now, Cornelious will apparently need to keep up the charade as Anthony, and hopefully he gets to enjoy a turkey while he’s at it.
