I’m not sure why, but I always associate the Harry Potter movies with the holidays, so this audition video (which is, admittedly, a little old) featuring a super young Daniel Radcliffe is very appropriately timed–and awfully cute.
As I said, this video’s a little old. It originally came out in one of the collector’s editions of the films. Still, Radcliffe’s performance really sings (not literally). He’s auditioning with director Chris Columbus. As /Film’s Ethan Anderton so astutely points out, they also screen-tested Radcliffe for some lines from Prisoner of Azkaban. They’re some pretty emotionally heavy lines, especially for a little kid, but he handles them with aplomb.
The real magic (sorry) moment is when they have Radcliffe try on some glasses. When he wears the final pair… phew. What a moment.
