A former Pentagon UFO investigator says the US recovered alien bodies. The evidence is still a mystery
His new memoir revisits the infamous Roswell incident.

A former Pentagon official who led the government’s investigation into unidentified flying objects says the U.S. recovered non-human bodies from the infamous 1947 Roswell crash. The claim comes from an alleged insider whose account is detailed in his new memoir, according to People, but the evidence behind the reported recovery remains unverified.
Jay Stratton, the former director of the Pentagon’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) Task Force, discusses the alleged discovery in his new book, ‘Out of the Shadows: Revealing the Truth About Non-Human Intelligent Life.’ In an interview, Stratton described what he reportedly learned about the government’s handling of unexplained aerial phenomena and the possibility of recovered non-human materials.
Stratton’s account of the Roswell incident is based on information allegedly shared with him by an insider. The 1947 incident in New Mexico has long been at the center of UFO conspiracy theories, following an initial military announcement about the recovery of a flying disc and a subsequent explanation that the material came from a weather balloon. Stratton claims the recovered material included bodies that were not human, describing some of the alleged beings as dead when they were found, while others were reportedly alive but later died after refusing food or contact.
The former UFO investigator makes other claims about recovered spacecraft
Stratton also claims that military contractors possess recovered craft and that the government has concealed efforts to understand or reproduce the technology. He previously served as the director of the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force, which investigated reports of unexplained objects observed by military personnel and others. The task force was part of the government’s broader effort to examine sightings that could potentially pose national security risks.
The Pentagon has previously said it has found no verifiable evidence that the US government or private companies possessed extraterrestrial technology in a released statement. That position contrasts with the allegations described in Stratton’s memoir, leaving the claims about recovered bodies and spacecraft unconfirmed by publicly available evidence.
His allegations echo claims made by former intelligence official David Grusch during a 2023 congressional hearing, when he alleged that the government possessed non-human biological material.
Why the Roswell incident continues to attract attention
The Roswell incident dates back to July 1947, when the US military announced that personnel had recovered a flying disc near Roswell, New Mexico. The incident became a lasting source of UFO speculation, with theories that the government had recovered an alien spacecraft and concealed the discovery. It even inspired a Google Doodle commemorating the Roswell crash.
Later US Air Force investigations attributed the debris to balloon-related military research, including Project Mogul, a classified effort designed to monitor Soviet nuclear tests. For now, the distinction remains between claims of extraterrestrial encounters and evidence that can be independently examined. Until verifiable evidence emerges, the alleged recovery of alien bodies at Roswell remains unconfirmed.
