Woman gets HP notification about extra charges for printing over 100 pages, then calls out its subscription-based business model
We have a problem

A woman on TikTok is explaining how subscription models work by sharing her experience with her HP printer. Shainagraham1 said in a video she had an ink subscription with the company but recently received an email notifying her of charges on her HP account because she printed over 100 pages that month, exceeding her subscription plan’s limits.
Graham expressed, “So I’m not allowed to print. What are you f****** talking about? I own the printer. I own the paper. I own the ink. And now I have you somewhere keeping a log of how many times I printed and you charge accordingly. This is f****** insane. Insane.” Speaking about the charges she would have to pay to use her printer, Graham said, “…Not only do they charge you for a monthly subscription that you have to have in order for your printer to function, you also now have to pay for how many pages you print on your printer.”
Graham asked her audience if anyone had similar experiences. “Never knew you had to have a subscription. Never knew that. Did everybody else know that? And I just didn’t know that. Is that common to know?” she asked.
“Greed is out of control”
Graham’s video has received over 200 comments. Some commenters noted her experience and shared their thoughts on the issue. One person said, “And… you can only use HP ink , HP CEO MADE 23 MILLION IN 2025 , but you are not allowed to print an extra sheet this month. Greed is out of control.” Another wrote, “This crashout is so effing valid. I have canceled allllll subscriptions ALL OF THEM. Side note. Your hair is amazing. You’re beautiful.”
A few people shared similar experiences with HP and said they opted for a replacement because of these issues. One person commented, “we just threw away a very nice HP printer and got a canon mega tank printer for a deal because of the issue you describe.” Another noted, “Same. I threw mine in the trash and bought a Cannon. Never another HP product.”
Some people’s criticisms weren’t limited to Graham’s experience, as they raised concerns about subscription models as a whole, which have been under scrutiny for the past couple of years as their frequency has increased. One person remarked, “this is a new way of life. They want to charge us a subscription for everything. Pretty soon we’ll have to pay our subscription and just till I breathe oxygen.” Another said, “Its f******* insane! It’s everywhere! It’s like you bought it and are renting it all at the same time!”
Graham’s experience shows how frustrating hidden costs can be even when printing at home. Her reaction highlights the need for transparency and raises a relatable question: after paying for a printer and ink, why pay extra for more pages?
