Woman toting with her baby through Aldi gets haunted by a smiling old man who boldly solicits her to visit his home: ‘Seems quite predatory’
That could go south in so many ways.

An unsettling parking lot exchange outside a grocery store has prompted a mother to warn others about maintaining boundaries while running errands alone with infants.
Creator Carly (@metcalf.carly) took to TikTok to recount how a solo shopping trip with her baby, Monroe, turned weirdly uncomfortable. She explained that she’s currently on unpaid maternity leave. So, she decided to forgo online delivery fees and drive to her local supermarket to pick up groceries in person.
However, the simple budget-conscious outing took an alarming turn when an older man followed her to her vehicle and repeatedly solicited her to visit his residence.
A routine errand at Aldi escalated in the parking lot
With her infant strapped securely to her chest in a carrier, Carly finished packing her purchases outside the building. While loading up, she noticed an elderly man retrieving a shopping trolley nearby who, allegedly, continuously stared and smiled at her.
Carly initially brushed off the attention as harmless interest in the baby and continued toward her parked vehicle. However, the interaction did not end at the storefront. Rather than entering the supermarket, the man allegedly walked alongside her across the lot to her car and refused to leave.
Once at her vehicle, the stranger reportedly began pressing her with invasive personal questions, including asking specifically where she lived. The conversation quickly shifted toward an offer that left the mother completely on edge.
The stranger pushed an unsolicited invitation under the guise of an infant sleep aid
Under the pretense of offering an infant an item, the man reportedly invited Carly and her baby back to his private residence. According to Carly, the stranger deliberately framed the invitation around Monroe’s sleep habits, claiming he had an item at his house that would resolve infant restlessness.
“Before asking if I wanted to go to his house to get a toy, he specifically set it up as, ‘Oh, is she not sleeping at this age? This toy will help her sleep.’ Um, like it just seems quite predatory.”
Reflecting on the encounter, Carly acknowledged that older generations can sometimes display awkward social behavior around young children. But, at the same time, she emphasized that asking for home addresses and inviting strangers over crosses a distinct line.
At the end, Carly sought feedback from fellow parents in her video caption. She questioned whether her reaction was dramatic or if the man’s behavior was genuinely alarming. If true, the experience serves as a stark reminder for caregivers navigating public spaces, reinforcing the necessity of trusting instincts whenever casual encounters veer into intrusive territory.
