You Need to Watch the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Right Now! (And You Can!)

*Wholly unnecessary Jedi hand wave.*

This morning’s panel for Star Wars: The Last Jedi finally brought us the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the arrival of the trailer for the next main storyline Star Wars movie!

So far, we’ve only gotten descriptions online from Disney investors who’ve seen some footage, as well as a brief tease from yesterday’s Carrie Fisher tribute of Fisher on the movie’s set with director Rian Johnson. Now, we’ve finally got the real deal, and we could not be more excited!

The new trailer definitely has the vibe of being a sequel where the bad guys regroup and come back, and things get a bit dark—kind of like The Empire Strikes Back, which we find it hard to complain about. It also starts with a wonderful shot that plays around with the idea of opening on a starry background and then switches things up creatively, which has me personally excited to see if that creativity carries over to the full movie.

We’ve also got shots of our new major players from The Force Awakens, with Rey doing plenty of Jedi training, Finn still in recovery, Poe under attack, Kylo Ren being an angry man-baby, and a brief glimpse at Leia doing her thing, which immediately grabs out heartstrings and does not let go. Luke Skywalker also makes good on the promise of the title, saying, “It’s time for the Jedi to end,” but much like that ominous title, we have no idea how that statement fits into the context of the movie. Maybe Rey can change his mind! Unfortunately, we’ve got about eight more months to wait to find out, but we should at least find out a bit more as the release approaches in December, even if Disney is predictably secretive about a lot of it.

In the meantime, we also have a teaser poster to drive our imaginations:
