Young couple confronts a 62-year-old man in China’s Jiuzhaigou. Then a violent row breaks out and reveals exactly what they were fighting over

A physical fight broke out at the Five-Coloured Pond in China’s Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area after an argument over a photo spot spiraled out of control. Four tourists were involved, and three were injured, according to the New York Post.
Footage from the scene appears to capture a gray-haired man in a blue jacket throwing punches at a man wearing a purple top. The aftermath of the fight left the younger couple with visible blood on their faces. Bystanders quickly gathered around the pair to help as the scene unfolded.
Posts shared online claimed the older couple, aged 62 and 58, tried to cut in line while people waited to take photos at the viewing platform. However, Jiuzhaigou County police said the groups clashed over a better photo position. Police later settled the case through mediation after both sides apologized.
Everyone ended up apologizing to each other at the police station
Who threw the first punch remains disputed. A police staffer told Sing Tao Daily that both sides bore responsibility and that the younger side may have struck first. However, witnesses told Haibao News that the younger man never hit back and only held on to the older man to stop him from leaving.
Both the younger couple and one of the older visitors ended up with injuries. China.com reported that the younger man suffered a broken nose and needed more than 10 stitches in his lip. Medical staff treated all three individuals, and they were later confirmed to be out of danger.
Police took everyone involved to a station for an investigation, as the Jiuzhaigou scenic area has no law enforcement powers of its own. After some time, the parties agreed to mediation at both sides’ request. Officers stated that those involved acknowledged their mistakes and apologized to each other before reaching an agreement.
Authorities stated this after the incident. They urged visitors to communicate calmly and avoid allowing disagreements to escalate into violence. The statement identified the older pair as tourists from Shaanxi, while the younger pair, aged 27 and 26, were visiting from Beijing and Guangdong.
Chinese law lets police settle a fight like this without punishing anyone
The outcome follows China’s Public Security Administration Punishment Law, and a revised version took effect at the start of this year. Article 9 allows police to resolve fights arising from civil disputes through mediation when the circumstances are relatively minor. Police generally impose no penalty once both parties reach and follow through on a mediated agreement.
The Jiuzhaigou statement mentioned no detention or fine, as the case was closed through mediation. That outcome frustrated some Chinese social media users, as the footage showed two people bleeding from the face. A trending Weibo hashtag also saw users call for an end to free peak-season entry for older visitors at Jiuzhaigou.
