Karoline Leavitt says Trump tore into former UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over immigration and ‘stupid’ policies during lunch

After leaving her government role, former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been revealing details about what happened behind closed doors during her tenure. Last week, she appeared on “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” and shared her experience of witnessing the conversations between President Donald Trump and former UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer from about a year ago, when Trump visited the UK.
Leavitt recalled that they were having lunch with Starmer, possibly at Windsor Castle or Starmer’s home, when Trump began criticizing him, questioning his policies and decisions. “We’re sitting around the table, and we’re all enjoying lunch, and we’re in this beautiful place, and the president just starts ripping into him for his policies,” Leavitt said. She added, “He says, ‘Your policies here are so stupid, you need to close your borders… You need to deport these people you have in your country. I know your country and I know your people, they hate what you’re doing.'”
Leavitt also commented on the response to Trump’s rant, noting, “Starmer sat there… this was in his house, in his country.” She continued, “Starmer’s just sitting there…this is in his house, in his country. We’re not even at the White House, we’re not even on our own territory and he’s just.” When Hannity asked if she found the situation amusing, she responded, “Of course! I remember Stephen Miller and I looking at each other like, ‘Oh boy, here we go.'”
Leavitt’s comments drew backlash from MAGAs
Leavitt’s comments on Hannity’s podcast drew mixed reactions. Some appreciated her rare insight into the political world, while others criticized her for potentially revealing too much. Newsmax TV host Greg Kelly was among the few to raise concerns about Leavitt’s conduct during the podcast episode.
On social media, Kelly, while resharing a clip from the podcast, wrote, “Unbelievable. So now that she’s an Ex press secretary, Karoline (with a K) Leavitt GOSSIPS about PRIVATE meetings the President had with world leaders? We’re in the middle of MIDTERM MADNESS and Karoline (with a K) “dishes” Without a Care In the World. A BREACH of Trust: The President’s, and the Nation’s. So IMMATURE!!!!”
After more than a year as White House Press Secretary, Trump announced in the first half of August 2026 that Leavitt planned to leave her role to spend more time with her family, as her job commitments had become challenging and were hindering her ability to do so. Her final day was August 27, 2026. Trump has not yet found her replacement, but rumors suggest he has his eye on someone.
