No, really: it’s the end of the road for Julie Taymor at Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. What was rumored yesterday is definitely true today, with sources citing Taymor’s “other commitments” and definitely not her “brutal, perilous, consistently troubled musical production.” (Note: Latter quote not actually quoted from anything.) She will, apparently, still be involved as part of a newly formed “creative team,” but the bulk of the directing will be the responsibility of Phil McKinley, who previously helmed The Boy From Oz as well as the Barnum & Bailey Circus. We don’t have to remind you of all the problems this show has experienced since it started previews, but suffice it to say that yesterday’s dangling Green Goblin fiasco was probably a good signal to begin a major overhaul. Among other things. Okay, everything.
So, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will be delayed indefinitely. But at least we’ll have The Spidey Project to talk about next week!
