Is ‘Deadpool’ on Netflix?

Deadpool premiered in 2016 and quickly became one of our favorite R-rated Marvel film adaptions. The film gave us a proper introduction to Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. Previously, he had been introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds. In the film, he was called Weapon XI and was an interpretation of Deadpool. However, the film badly butchered this Deadpool iteration, with him lacking his signature red suit, having his mouth sewn shut, and possessing a number of odd superpowers that Deadpool doesn’t have. Fortunately, though, Reynolds remained in the role of the mercenary when the spin-off film, Deadpool, was developed.

Deadpool presented a much more comic book-accurate iteration of Deadpool and it proved to be a delight to Marvel fans. The film follows Wade Wilson (Reynolds), a former special forces operative who is working as a mercenary when he meets the love of his life, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). His life changes when he is diagnosed with cancer and, in search of a cure, agrees to be an experimental test subject for Ajax (Ed Skrein). While his cancer is cured, he is tortured and left severely disfigured with accelerated healing powers. Adopting the name “Deadpool,” Wilson sets off to exact revenge on Ajax.

Deadpool was a significant commercial and critical success. It spurned a sequel, Deadpool 2, in 2018, which also achieved similar success. Both Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were produced by 20th Century Fox. However, in recent years, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, which reverted the film rights to Deadpool to Marvel studios. Hence, Deadpool 3 is in the works and will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While not much is known about Deadpool 3 yet, eventually, viewers will need to catch up on the first two Deadpool films.

Is Deadpool on Netflix?

In the past, Marvel fans might’ve headed over to Netflix to watch Deadpool. However, as of now, Deadpool is no longer available to stream on Netflix in any region. The disappearance of Deadpool from Netflix makes sense, though, as it recently got a new home. Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan all migrated over to Disney+ and are currently available to stream. The addition of these titles is just the latest step Disney+ has taken to get all of their Marvel titles under one umbrella. Previously, Disney+ moved all of Netflix’s Defenders series to their platform, as well.

The addition of the Deadpool films and Logan on Disney+ is particularly special, though. The arrival of these three films marks the first rated-R films to be available to stream on the platform. However, according to Reynolds, most of Disney’s films should’ve been rated-R already.
