Los Angeles woman tries to melt Hershey’s chocolate bar for treat. Then she notices something alarming: ‘We’re not mad enough’

A woman accidentally makes “slime” after trying to melt a Hershey’s chocolate bar. Now, other shoppers are questioning what gives the candy its bizarre texture.
In a video with over 8.3 million views, TikToker Sheba (@sheba.xo) wiggles an intact Hershey’s bar over a bowl. She explains that she tried to melt it. But instead of liquifying, the bar turned “elastic-y.”
As she shakes the bar aggressively, it still doesn’t come apart. Sheba even bends the chocolate bar, which maintains its shape.
“It’s like slime. This is fake real chocolate,” she exclaims.
“If it was real chocolate shouldn’t it melt???” she writes in the caption.
What’s with the texture of the Hershey’s chocolate bar?
Bakers on Reddit say they’ve noticed a change in Hershey’s chocolate bars when trying to melt them down for sweet treats.
“When my mom did it, the chocolate melted right away and she smeared it around to cover the whole pan,” one writes in r/Old_recipes. “Mine would not melt — even when I put it back in the oven, first with the heat off and then with it ON.”
“Lol the chocolate bars have gradually been modified to not melt easily. Back in the ’60’s you could take it out of the wrapper and it would start melting onto you,” another suggests.
Members of the Reese’s family, which sold its peanut butter chocolate candy brand to Hershey’s, even noticed a change in the texture of the chocolate bar. According to ABC27, Reese claims that the parent company recently swapped ingredients in its chocolate coating.
However, The Hershey’s Company denies any recent ingredient changes. According to the brand’s website, its milk chocolate contains “sugar, milk, chocolate, cocoa butter, milk fat, lecithin, PGPR, and natural flavor.”

How did viewers react to the rubbery chocolate?
Commenters say they’ve also noticed changes in Hershey’s products that have turned them off from buying from the brand.
“Hershey chocolate is so gross tasting now. It was good many years ago. I wouldn’t eat it if you paid me,” one says.
Another claims, “Stop buying Hershey’s. It’s not even food anymore, just a chemical mess.”
“Hershey’s ‘chocolate’ is absolutely foul. Don’t buy it,” a third writes.
Others say they’ve noticed declining quality in other treats, not just Hershey’s.
A commenter notes, “Pringles don’t taste the same either. All food is disgusting now.”
“STOP BUYING MAJOR BRAND NAMES!!! They have ZERO incentive to provide quality because their NAME sells the product. Read labels & buy responsibly,” a second suggests.
“We bought ice cream, left some in a bowl on the counter overnight… wasn’t melted on the morning. WHAT is going on??” another questions.
