Strange things are happening in the King Arthur universe. Fox is reportedly giving the classic tale a modern twist: A new report says they’re turning it into a police procedural drama called Camelot.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series will take place in Manhattan and center on a street artist named Art who teams up with best friend Lance and ex-girlfriend Gwen, an idealistic cop, to fight back against the dark forces threatening the city. No word on whether or not we’ll see a few knights reimagined, but it will be odd to see Arthur swapping swords for spray cans.
If that sounds bizarre, you haven’t heard about what Michael Bay is supposedly planning to do with the story. Per Mashable, King Arthur’s folklore will clash with those pesky autobots in Transformers: The Last Knight, slated for release on June 23, 2017. At first I assumed this was satire a la The Onion, but it turns out this isn’t so out of left field. Both worlds previously collided in a 1985 episode of the animated series, Transformers. Still, it’s a difficult concept to swallow because a) This is Michael Bay we’re talking about and b) See option A. And even stranger, Liam Garrigan has been cast to play King Arthur in the movie. You might recognize him from Once Upon a Time as, well, King Arthur.
I know rebooting old stories is a thing now, but both of these projects seem superfluous. Just because you can do something, doesn’t always mean you should.
