Elon Musk admits SpaceX throttled Starlink in Ukraine for over 1 week. Then he claims the military allegedly used it for offensive strikes
Give and take

On Saturday, in a social media post, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk admitted that his company was responsible for the temporary Starlink service restrictions in Ukraine, which the country largely uses for attacks against and defense from Russia. He wrote, “Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be… Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week.”
Musk also emphasized how Starlink was aiding Ukraine in its war against Russia. He noted, “Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact.” He added, “SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR.”
Musk also alleged that Starlink helped prevent Russia from completely “overrunning” Ukraine during the “early days of the war,” when all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia. As a concluding note, however, Musk expressed that he did not stand for and had “UTTER CONTEMPT” for the “virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter” and “offer no realistic solution” to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Several hours before Musk’s social media update about restoring Starlink services in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted an update on the same topic. He wrote, “The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient.”
Zelenskyy highlighted why Starlink and Starshield (designed by SpaceX to support national security efforts) mattered. He wrote, “This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.” He also extended gratitude towards countries and people who had helped during such a situation. He said, I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.”
