Content Creator Called Out for Making Bone Marrow Watermelon Cake for Her Baby: “Typa Cake You Would Make for a Dog”

Some parents celebrate their baby’s first birthday with a smash cake. Content creator Bridget Levine went in a slightly meatier direction, frosting an entire watermelon with whipped bone marrow for her daughter’s big day. And just like that, the internet discovered a new dessert to argue about.

Levine recently reshared footage originally posted in January showing how she made the unconventional birthday treat. After cutting the watermelon into a cake-like cylinder, she roasted and whipped bone marrow until it reached a creamy consistency before spreading it over the fruit like frosting.

“I refused to make my baby a birthday cake full of sugar and flour… so I frosted watermelon with BONE MARROW,” Levine explained. Her daughter, for what it’s worth, appeared considerably less horrified than the comment section and happily dug into her birthday meal. Apparently, one baby’s piece of cake is the internet’s bone to pick.

This Birthday Cake Had the Internet Barking

Levine presented the recipe as a nutritious alternative to a conventional first-birthday cake, writing that the marrow would “nourish her growing body.” Bone marrow contains fat, protein, and several vitamins and minerals, but viewers were seemingly more interested in debating whether any of those things belonged on a watermelon.

“It looks nice but genuinely why bone marrow?” one commenter asked, suggesting yogurt might have made more sense. “It seems like the typa cake you would make for a dog.”

They were hardly alone with the dog treat notion. One person called it “senior dog’s birthday meal vibes,” while another simply pleaded, “Just let the baby have cake.” Someone else apparently understood the nutritional argument but maintained that birthdays deserved an exception: “I understand the benefits of bone marrow. I also understand the benefits of just having a little f*cking cake on your birthday lol.”

Others brought their own experiences with restrictive diets into the debate. “My mom was super restrictive and now I am addicted to sugar,” one social media user shared, apparently making the case for an occasional trip to the cookie jar.

Lightening the mood, not everyone wanted to send the recipe to the doghouse. Some viewers defended Levine, pointing out that her daughter clearly enjoyed the food and praising the decision to avoid processed sugar. Others called the combination nutritious, proving there apparently is an audience for marrow-frosted watermelon.

The Birthday Girl Had the Least Complaints

The loudest critic of the unique cake certainly wasn’t its recipient. In the video, Levine’s daughter enthusiastically ate the watermelon and marrow while her mother watched.

Levine has built her online following around baby-food recipes, motherhood, and health-related reels. She was never really known for the typical rice cereal route, so encountering an unconventional recipe in her slice-of-life content isn’t exactly off-brand. Still, this one transformed a first birthday into a full-blown internet food fight. After all, this isn’t the first time a watermelon went viral.

Ultimately, the birthday girl got watermelon, bone marrow, and visibly zero complaints. Everyone else got beef with a cake that didn’t technically contain any.
