It’s a Good Time To Be a ‘Bleach’ and ‘My Hero Academia’ Fan Thanks to These Viz Manga Announcements

Time to (try and) make room on our bookshelves.

With Bleach returning to the world of anime with the upcoming “Thousand Year Blood War,” and My Hero Academia potentially “reaching its goal” in a year, it’s a good time to be a fan of both shonen franchises. It’s also a good time to be a newcomer who gets to discover why both series are so beloved, especially with Viz releasing special editions for both manga.

This limited-edition re-release of Bleach vol 1 is a good time to get into the series

Bleach

Celebrate 20 years of Bleach with this exclusive volume featuring cover art from the series launch on August 20, 2001, in Weekly Shonen Jump mangazine!

Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn’t change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper and member of the mysterious Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who display psychic energy, Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family; but much to her surprise, Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy. Now a full-fledged Soul Reaper himself, Ichigo quickly learns that the world he inhabits is one full of dangerous spirits and, along with Rukia—who is slowly regaining her powers—it’s Ichigo’s job to protect the innocent from Hollows and help the spirits themselves find peace.

As someone who has only seen a handful of episodes of the anime, this re-release would be a good time to revisit the series and (attempt to) get caught up before the big, final arc airs in October.

This special edition is available for preorder now over at Viz and will be released on August 2, 2022.

So many My Hero Academia arcs in one giant box

My Hero Academia

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…

Set to release on October 18, 2022, this boxset comes with the first 20 volumes of the manga. This includes a good portion of the story, from the beginning of Deku’s journey to becoming a hero, to significant moments like All Might’s battle against All For One and even the introduction of Chisaki Kai. If you’re more familiar with the anime, this boxset is, essentially, the first four seasons of the series.
