What Is Going on With Ben Shapiro’s Eyebrows?

Ben Shapiro posted a recent video, but his eyebrows are causing a stir all over social media. The conservative commentator resurfaced with big bushy eyebrows that had everybody asking the same question. Namely, when did this happen?

Some people immediately jump to generative AI. After all, it is the standard operating procedure for a lot of conservative content on the Internet. However, we can’t rule out the possibility that he had some cosmetic work done. The rising trend of Mar a Lago face is something that has made the rounds on the Internet as well. This is just the latest strange social media mystery to grip different platforms.

As some people don’t know the magic of makeup, it could be as simple as someone filling in his brows with extra volume this week. Needless to say, in an attention economy that thrives off of viral outrage and conversation, Shapiro has perfected his technique. Maybe that eyebrow pencil needs a little bit of work, but whoever’s posting for him knows exactly what they’re doing. Since the beginning of this ongoing war in Iran, you haven’t seen as many clips of the conservative provocateur on your social media feed. And one well placed eyebrow video changed all of that in short order.

While numerous people in the comments ask, “Is this for real?” and parody accounts get their jokes off. We’re all getting played once again. (Yes, even me as a writer for covering this nonsense!) Parody Jeff might be able to wing a zinger in there. But, we’re all worse off for it. Lord knows there are some serious things going on. There is room for levity, but maybe we could focus on someone who isn’t actively aiding in the hellscape the rest of social media has become?

Ben Shapiro’s eyebrows are gender affirming care

This entire conversation feels eerily similar to other gender-affirming procedures that men have been going after in the last few years.  Different hair treatments, Erectile dysfunction pills, and height surgery for certain gentlemen. Ben Shapiro hasn’t been vocal about any height-related issues. But, for a lot of the young men that follow him, it’s a common concern. The New York Times did a massive profile on dudes trying to get more hype by any means necessary. That means even if it requires invasive surgery to break bones to gain a few inches.

Dr. Ellen Katz Westrich told the NYT all about these different young men who come to her for cosmetic surgery. It seems to be really personal, and they feel as though they’re under real threat from the rest of society. “They’ll describe it as like the dull hum that just doesn’t go away,” Dr. Katz Westrich explained. “I’ve heard it described to me as, ‘I’m a tall person in the body of a short person.’”

I don’t want to get too snarky about any prospective height surgeries or eyebrow enhancements. But, it does feel like men who follow Ben Shapiro want the same treatment that they would deny others. If it makes him or anyone else feel better in their skin, they should go for it. One thing we know about the far-right is that they’re not afraid of a scalpel. It would just be nice if they could let someone else in on the gender affirming care train!
