A Texas woman thinks she’s showing up to Costco early to pick up her medication. She realizes executive members are able to get in before her, making her question the “Costco class system.”
In a video with over 1.5 million views, TikToker Sierra Aaliyah (@sierraxliyah) stands outside the warehouse at 9:57 a.m. While Costco’s member hours show a 10 a.m. opening, she sees some customers scanning in early. Then, she realizes her mom has a standard Costco membership instead of the executive tier.
“Did you guys know executive members get to get in at 9 a.m.?” she asks. “The rest of us plebeians, we have to wait until 10 a.m.”
She jokes that she needs an executive membership to “break free of this generational curse [her] mom has given [her].”
What do Costco executive members get?
The Costco executive membership goes for $130 annually, which is over double the cost of the standard membership. However, several added perks might make it worth it for some shoppers.
Executive members get 2% back on all of their Costco purchases, which may cover their membership cost for the following year. The highest tier also has access to exclusive discounts on auto and pet insurance and same-day Costco orders.
Plus, executive members also get a whole hour to themselves in the mornings. The warehouse opens to its highest-tier members at 9 a.m., while others have to wait until 10 a.m. This lets some customers avoid the crowded aisles that other Costco members complain about.
Do executive members think it’s worth it?
