Cameron: Watching Avatar on Your iPhone Is “Dumb,” Laptop Not Much Better

Speaking at a press conference to hawk Avatar‘s upcoming Blu-Ray release, James Cameron revealed his disdain for watching his opus on screens not big enough to contain its majesty.

Avatar on the iPhone? Definitely no-go. On a laptop? Still pushing it.

TechRadar reports:

“I don’t feel that I’m making movies for iPhones,” [Cameron] explained. “If someone wants to watch it on an iPhone, I’m not going to stop them, especially if they’re paying for it, but I dont recommend it. I think it’s dumb when you have characters that are so small in the frame that they’re not visible.

“I don’t know. I’ve never watched Avatar on a laptop. I guess it probably works, but I don’t recommend it.”

Now, Blu-Ray drives on laptops are becoming increasingly commonplace — Sony has a VAIO with a Blu-Ray read/write drive for under $1000 — so there may be a degree of nose-cutting/face-spiting going on here. Really: why buy Avatar in regular old Blu-Ray when the 3D Blu-Ray release is merely a year away?
