Atlantic Sailor Was Told Not to Open Container 47. But Then, He Heard Breathing: ‘Open’

There are things that lurk beneath the surface that humans were never supposed to know about. A man named Eric, a sailor in the Atlantic Ocean, told a story about Container 47. Mikey Grimm (@mikeygrimm13) on TikTok shared Eric’s tale—perhaps whatever was inside that container shouldn’t have ever been dug up.
Grimm claimed that Eric worked in a private security and cargo company in his early twenties. The company often exports high-value artifacts for wealthy collectors and museums such as the Smithsonian. Eric was accustomed to ancient relics and paintings coming aboard the ship, which would’ve frightened most, as these are heavily insured artifacts.
But none of these artifacts have made an impact on Eric like Container 47. Eric claimed that from the moment it came on board, Container 47 had been treated differently.
Not like any other cargo on the Atlantic
“It arrived at the dock just before sunset inside a massive black steel container,” Grimm relayed. “It had no markings on it, except for a faded symbol that Eric didn’t recognize at all.” The symbol barely scratched the surface of the lock.
Oddly enough, Eric also claimed that there was no barcode or destination label for the container. He became curious about the strange container, as other shipments were cataloged except for Container 47. What’s more, six men in suits supervised the loading of the container personally and refused dock workers anywhere near it. One of the crew members was even threatened with termination after they’d taken a photo of it.
When the container was stored below deck, the captain gathered the crew to give strange warnings. Nobody was allowed near Container 47—no inspections, no questions, no exceptions. Eric laughed it off, thinking it was just a priceless artifact or illegal private collection being moved across the Atlantic.
But on the first night at sea, one of the crew members reported hearing movement below the deck after everyone else had turned in. He heard heavy footsteps, pacing back and forth, but he didn’t know whose. The man looked visibly shaken, according to Eric, and said that the movement didn’t sound human.
Nobody believed the man until the second night.
A pungent smell crept up on board. Eric said it was “rotting earth mixed with stagnant water”—which seems like the perfect description for something that involves brain-eating amoebas. But he further explained that it smelled like “something that has been trapped for centuries that had been suddenly exposed to the air.” The odor spread on the lower levels of the ship, and even crew members began vomitting just being near the area.
Something from an ancient crypt
Then, somewhere beneath the cargo deck, they heard knocking—three loud bangs. Everyone on the ship heard it, with one sailor joking that maybe someone was trapped in one of the containers.
But nobody laughed when a fourth knock came. It seemed deliberate—affirming that perhaps someone was, in fact, trapped.
Later that night, Eric was assigned to help check a refridgeration failure near the lower storage corridor. He didn’t want to go, but as one of the newest hires, he didn’t have much of a choice. When he got closer to Container 47, he noticed that the surface was wet. He felt the cold emanating from the container.
Scratched across the latch were marks, which had not been there before it was loaded on board. Then, Eric heard breathing—followed by something mumbling from the inside in a language he didn’t recognize. He froze—whatever was inside felt ancient.
The voice started speaking English, tinged with a deep accent from Eastern Europe.
“Open,” the voice said. Eric immediately backed away, but before he could run, every light on the corridor went out. He heard the container creaking, as though whatever was in there was starting to get up. When the emergency lights kicked on, he saw one of the locks bending—as if pressure from the container were forcing it apart.
He managed to run back to the upper deck.
What was inside Container 47?
The next day, the captain informed the crew that they had to dock early because of a mechanical issue. After the events from the night before, Eric was suspicious. When the ship reached port, there were armed vehicles, with men in unmarked uniforms waiting for them. The crew was forced into their quarters as Container 47 was being unloaded.
An older crew member pulled Eric aside about Container 47. The artifact had been recovered from beneath an old ruin in an Eastern European country. It was supposedly a stone block that was older than recorded history. He was told that the excavation team that Container 47 was not equipped to transport the artifact for whatever reason.
Eric would leave the company not long after. In his story submission, he included photos of the container, as well as what was inside. It was a box-like figure, but there seemed to be nothing else that would make all the noise and movement Eric described. Whatever had haunted the crew those two nights on the Atlantic, nobody would know for sure.
