United Airlines Passenger Slept Through Her Flight. She Came Out with Her Stuff Drenched in Tea 'United, You've Got a Special Place in Hell'

Not all journeys go by smoothly—there are always bound to be some rough winds and turbulence in the skies. But some accidents are entirely avoidable. Cactus Tate (@cactustate), a comedian, went on TikTok to criticize United Airlines over an incident involving her belongings and a flight attendant.

“I’m sitting in the airport, so [expletive] angry that tears are coming out of my eyes,” Tate told TikTok. She continued by expressing that her experience with United Airlines had been unpleasant.

“I fell asleep in Row 8A. There were no seats in front of me, and I fell asleep with my backpack in between my legs,” the comedian recalled. She acknowledged that she shouldn’t have kept her bag outside of the overhead bin, but her issue is that the flight attendant supposedly failed to wake her up.

“Instead, they just grabbed my bag, and they put it in my overhead bin without taking my tea at the side,” she said. Tate claimed that her laptop, headphones, wallet, and vape were all steeped in tea because of the incident.

“And the part that’s been bringing me to actual tears, that’s really making me struggle? Is this is my joke book.” Tate showed her ‘joke book’ on camera, and it looked soggy and torn apart. The scribbles on the notebook had turned into ink blots.

“It’s fine. I can get another one. It’s not like all my best work is in there, and my whole life’s story, and everything brilliant I’ve ever written is in that book. It’s not like that—it’s not like that book is my whole life,” the comedian said in tears.

Did United Airlines compensate her for the damage?

United Airlines initially told her there was ‘nothing’ they could do. Unsurprisingly, Tate was left angered and frustrated by the response.

“My computer’s wet, my headphones are wet, United’s like ‘there’s nothing I can do’? They wouldn’t even give me a plastic bag to put my dripping backpack in,” Tate alleged.

“United, you’ve got a special place in hell. For ruining my joke book,” the comedian said. She was primarily upset with how her joke book got ruined because of the supposed negligence that took place. Many social media users expressed sympathies for Tate, with some waiting for United Airlines to reach out and remedy the situation.

One commenter wrote, “4.4 million people waiting for united to make this right.”

Another said, “They have to reimburse call corporate. It’s a federal law.” According to the Code of Federal Regulations, airlines have domestic baggage liability. If a passenger’s personal property or baggage is damaged on a domestic flight, the airline has to compensate up to $4,700 as a minimum liability level for a large aircraft. But this argument often applies to checked baggage, which makes the commenter’s claim contentious.

Nevertheless, other commenters were also pointing out that the flight attendant shouldn’t have taken Tate’s belongings without her consent.

A commenter, claiming to be a flight attendant, wrote, “As a flight attendant I promise this is NOT OKAY and grabbing other people’s bags without permission is literally against our job description. So sorry this happened to you!”

After some time, Tate said in a follow-up TikTok video that United Airlines had reached out and offered to compensate her for the damages. She also asked her fans to stop attacking United Airlines on her behalf, as the situation has been resolved.
