After agents searched her home in an immigration fraud probe, Ilhan Omar hits back at Trump’s name claim: ‘This creep reaches for one name: mine’

Fight Club

Earlier this month, federal agents searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home. The Justice Department said Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. The probe is examining whether Omar or her father lied on immigration paperwork submitted after they arrived in the United States in the 1990s, when Omar was 12.

No charges have been announced. Omar has denied wrongdoing, saying she is “confident in the fact that I didn’t do anything wrong.” She has called the search an attempt at political intimidation, while Trump called Omar “a terrible person” but insisted he was not involved in the search.

On Thursday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Omar’s real name is different from the one she uses. “It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar’s name is not Ilhan Omar, the one she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather, it’s an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” he wrote. He also referred to the long-circulating claim that Omar married her brother, writing that her last name is “incredibly, also the exact name of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they said she married and had children with.” That claim has never been proven, and Omar has long denied it.

Trump said he wanted Omar to step down

In the same post, Trump urged Omar to resign. “Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress. Please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, that the Dumocrat Party has just conceded her seat,” he wrote. He added, “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, her real name, has openly admitted to FRAUD, and she will not be legally allowed to be a Member of this August Body from this point forth.”

Trump also referred to Omar’s recent MS NOW interview, in which Chris Hayes asked her about the claim that she married her brother. Omar answered, “Not to my knowledge.” Trump wrote, “When asked whether or not she married her brother, she said, ‘Not to my knowledge.’ In other words, she somehow didn’t know?”

Omar responded on X. “The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history. Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar,” she wrote. In the same interview with Hayes, Omar also said she plans to move out of her Washington home, citing safety concerns after the search.

Omar’s jab at JD Vance’s name

Omar ended her post with a jab at the vice president: “Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is.” Vice President JD Vance’s full name is James David Vance, but he was born James Donald Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, according to the BBC. His name changed over the years after he was adopted by his stepfather and later took his grandparents’ surname.

Omar, who is seeking reelection in Minnesota’s 5th District on Nov. 3, has repeatedly framed Trump’s focus on her as political. Shortly after the search, she said she would not be silenced, accusing the administration of weaponizing federal law enforcement against its critics.
