Woman Buys a $5 Rotisserie Chicken From Sam’s Club. Then She Finds Something She Says She Never Should Have Seen: ‘Has To Be Pumped With Hormones’

A grocery store staple that many shoppers consider an easy dinner option is now at the center of an unexpected online discussion. Instagram user Sabrina Johnson (@sabrinajohnson776) has caught attention after sharing a warning about a rotisserie chicken, saying one discovery made her question a meal she had trusted for years.

For many families, a $5 rotisserie chicken is seen as a convenient way to put food on the table without spending much time cooking. But Johnson’s experience has pushed some shoppers to look more closely at what they are buying before bringing ready-to-eat food home.

Her post has gained attention as viewers react to what she says she discovered. Some have also shared their own concerns about grocery store food safety.

She looked closer and saw something she did not expect

In an Instagram video, Johnson says she purchased a rotisserie chicken from Sam’s Club and noticed what she believed was “fly larva or some sort of bug larva” on the chicken. “So this is for anybody that buys the rotisserie chickens from either Costco or Sam’s. Stop buying them,” she says in the video.

Johnson says she had purchased rotisserie chickens from both Sam’s Club and Costco regularly and often ate them multiple times a week. She says seeing what she believed was larvae on the chicken made her question how many times she may have eaten something unsafe without noticing. “I can’t even imagine if I hadn’t have seen that. What the f…k would I have eaten,” she says.

The creator also raised concerns about how rotisserie chickens are packaged after being prepared. She claims that keeping the chickens in plastic containers and bags for extended periods could expose the food to chemicals. She does not share additional information or evidence supporting that claim in the video. Similar questions about rotisserie chicken packaging have come up before after a Walmart shopper shared her reaction to a change in how deli chickens were packaged.

Johnson also mentioned legal claims involving Costco and said the concerns she raised about rotisserie chickens should be considered alongside those cases. She did not provide further details about the connection between her experience and the legal claims she referenced. 

The creator later questioned how stores are able to sell large rotisserie chickens for a low price. She says the size and cost of the chickens made her question how they are produced. “$5 for a chicken and a chicken that big… that has to be pumped with hormones, stuff like that,” she says. She does not share any additional details about the claim in the video.

The video has since received reactions from viewers, with many expressing shock over Johnson’s claims. Some commenters said they were surprised by the possibility of finding something unusual on a product they regularly purchase.

“Ewww,” one commenter wrote.  “Omg what how am I just finding out about this,” another person said. “This is seriously gross,” another viewer added.

Other commenters questioned details surrounding the video, including whether the chicken shown came from Sam’s Club or Costco. Some viewers also discussed concerns about food handling after seeing Johnson’s claims. Similar Costco shopper videos have also gained attention online, including one customer’s post about finding a mysterious package on the floor of a Costco location.

The post comes as shoppers continue sharing their experiences with ready-to-eat grocery items online. Johnson’s video does not show any official inspection results or confirmation of what the substance on the chicken was. Sam’s Club has not publicly responded to the claims made in the video.
