A home is supposed to be a place where people feel safe and have control over their own lives. But one woman says her marriage became a place where her husband controlled nearly every part of her daily routine.
Years after leaving what she describes as an abusive relationship, the woman is sharing the rules she says she was forced to follow during her 12-year marriage. Her story has gained attention online as viewers react to the level of control and isolation she describes.
TikTok creator Alana (@alanainbloomxo) says she is ready to share more about the years she spent living under her husband’s rules. She explains that those restrictions affected her family’s lifestyle, including their home, clothing, work, and the way they raised their children.
She says the rules kept getting harder to follow
In her video, Alana says she felt like a “slave” during the marriage and described it as “12 years in a severely abusive marriage.” She claims she was expected to follow every instruction from her husband, saying, “If he said it, if it was a new rule, I had to make it the 11th commandment.”
Alana says she was responsible for helping with her husband’s side jobs and learned skills including mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and operating heavy equipment. She adds that she continued taking on those responsibilities while pregnant and caring for their children.
She also claims her husband refused to get a driver’s license, leaving her responsible for driving him wherever he needed to go. She and the children would sometimes wait in the car for hours while he went inside places such as stores or his mother’s home.
According to her account, her family followed strict Sabbath rules. She claims they were not allowed to use electricity, water, or gas because of her husband’s beliefs.
Talking about their living conditions, Alana says, “I had to heat my house with a wood burning stove with wood from the backyard.” She also claims the family used candles for lighting and relied on an outdoor toilet her husband built in their backyard.
Alana says her husband’s mother knew about their lifestyle. They had to remove anything with a face from their home because her husband believed those items represented idol worship.
She also mentions strict clothing rules, claiming the family had to wear clothes made from one type of fabric based on her husband’s interpretation of Old Testament teachings. She says the clothing tags had to show “100 cotton” or “100 polyester” because mixed fabrics were not allowed. She cut up old shirts to cover her children’s feet during winters when they did not have socks.
Alana says she and her children escaped the relationship seven years ago and are now safe. “It’s been seven years since we escaped, but we are safe,” she says, adding that she is ready to share her story with others who may be experiencing abuse or isolation.
The creator’s claims have not been independently verified. There is no public response from the husband mentioned in the video.
Alana’s story comes as other women have shared their experiences leaving controlling relationships. One ended her marriage after three months, while another said a Disney trip helped her recognize she was in an abusive marriage.
The video has received strong reactions from viewers, with many sharing support for the woman in the comments. One viewer wrote, “I’m so sorry! Glad you are free!!”
