Perez Hilton Remains Hospitalized After the Disturbing Livestream as His Family Clings to ‘Hope’ Amid ‘Very Little Information’
Perez Hilton's family shared a hopeful update while revealing they've had limited communication about his condition.
Perez Hilton’s family says they’re still waiting for answers after the celebrity blogger was hospitalized earlier this week, sharing that they have received “very little information” while remaining hopeful about his recovery. In a statement posted to Hilton’s website, the family confirmed that he is now able to communicate as he continues receiving medical treatment.
“This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because we have received very little information,” the family wrote in the statement. “While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful.”
The update follows Hilton’s hospitalization on Aug. 4 after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple reports of a man livestreaming while self-harming. In a deeply disturbing livestream, Hilton was seen naked, wielding what appeared to be a kitchen knife, and injuring himself as horrified viewers begged him to stop and frantically attempted to alert the authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed they’d received “multiple calls” about a man they described as “livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.”
Authorities later confirmed that they safely transported Hilton to a local hospital, where he has received medical attention.
Hilton’s loved ones say they’re still searching for answers
Along with sharing that Hilton is able to communicate, his family thanked those who have reached out with support over the past several days. “Your compassionate humanity during this heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express,” the statement says, adding that Hilton’s condition has given them hope as they await additional updates.
Chris Booker, Hilton’s longtime podcast co-host, also spoke about the limited information available to the family. In a statement shared on Instagram, Booker said hospital confidentiality measures have limited the information available to Hilton’s relatives because of the number of people trying to learn about his condition. He also announced that their podcast is on hold while the focus remains on Hilton’s recovery.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., launched his celebrity gossip website in 2004 and became one of the internet’s most recognizable entertainment bloggers. Earlier this year, he spent several weeks in the hospital after developing an ulcer, perforation, and sepsis before returning home to Miami to recover with his family.
