Black Shopper Gets Detained by Security at Oxford Uniqlo Over a Random Clothing Label Found on the Floor: ‘Why Are You Asking Us Only?’
Racial profiling over a loose clothing label? That’s baffling.

Walking out of a high-street clothing store after making a purchase is a completely routine experience for most of us. But for Oxford content creator @abbasmissionz, a shopping trip to Uniqlo with friends allegedly turned into an uncomfortable confrontation right at the exit doors.
In a TikTok storytime with over 6,200 views, the creator claimed that the store security detained his group over a discarded piece of trash. They were reportedly singled out despite having already paid for their items at the till. The security then questioned them about a random price tag found on the shop floor.
Uniqlo security allegedly stopped the Black customers over a discarded tag
According to the creator, he and his friends spent the afternoon trying on t-shirts and filming content. They ultimately headed to the till to pay for their haul. But as they attempted to exit the premises with bagged merchandise in hand, a security guard allegedly stepped in to intercept them.
The guard reportedly claimed that staff had discovered a loose clothing label on the floor nearby and demanded to know if the group knew anything about it.
In disbelief, the creator confronted the officer, asking, “Are you… are you really stopping us because of a label?” To this, the security guard allegedly confirmed he was. This prompted the creator to question the legitimacy of the sudden stop.
The staff eventually apologized for the ‘misunderstanding’ at the Uniqlo exit
While the security guard held the group, a nearby Uniqlo floor employee allegedly stepped forward to apologize. According to the creator, they attempted to brush the awkward encounter off as a simple “misunderstanding.”
However, the creator suspected the employee herself may have alerted security in the first place. While the staff expressed regret, the creator pointed out the glaring flaw in the store’s logic. In a crowded, multi-level retail space, allegedly targeting paying customers over floor trash raises uncomfortable questions about profiling.
“If you found a label on the floor in a busy store, why are you asking us only? As you can see, we have paid ours already, and I’ve never been in a situation like this before,” he shared. The creator also showed footage of himself completing his transaction at the self-checkout register.
Why targeting shoppers over loose labels raises retail profiling issues
Loss prevention protocols exist to protect store inventory. But if security stops customers without clear evidence of concealment or theft, it could lead to accusations of bias.
In high-traffic retail environments, price tags and tags regularly fall off hangers or get discarded by shoppers. If the creator’s account is true, intercepting paying Black customers at the exit over a detached label, creates an embarrassing, public display of suspicion.
According to the creator, this was especially hurtful after they had already completed a purchase at the till. For shoppers who have done nothing wrong, being forced to justify their presence over store floor clutter is a frustrating experience that ruins an otherwise normal errand.
The creator asked viewers for their thoughts on the Uniqlo encounter
Reflecting on the unexpected incident at Uniqlo, the creator invited his audience to weigh in on how retail staff handled the situation. For majority of shoppers, proving their purchase at the till is the end of their shopping trip. But for this creator, it was allegedly the beginning of an uncomfortable experience.
If store security needs to investigate loose tags on the floor, questioning paying customers at the door isn’t the ideal way. At this point, it becomes poor customer service.
