White House Staffers Are Scrambling to Keep Trump Away From World Cup Matches to Avoid a Humiliating New Fan Trend

Avoidance at all costs?

White House staffers are in full damage-control mode as they scramble to keep Donald Trump away from World Cup matches, all to avoid a humiliating new fan trend. Chants linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, have gone viral across fan zones, bars, and even live broadcasts. According to Reality Tea, sources say the situation has reached “crisis mode,” with aides actively working to prevent Trump from attending games – especially those involving English-speaking teams.

The controversy isn’t new, but it reached a boiling point during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Fans from England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand have turned Epstein’s name into a stadium-wide taunt, with clips of the chants racking up millions of views online. The concern isn’t just about the chants themselves but how easily they spread. English-speaking crowds mean the message is understood by American audiences, making it a PR nightmare for the Trump administration.

Trump’s history with Epstein has been a political liability for years. The two moved in the same social circles during the 1980s and 1990s, and photos of them together have resurfaced repeatedly. In a 2002 interview, Trump even called Epstein a “terrific guy” who was “a lot of fun to be with.”

Since then, Trump has tried to distance himself from Epstein

The president has insisted they had a falling out long before Epstein’s legal troubles began. Trump has never been accused of any crimes related to Epstein, but the association alone has been enough to fuel endless speculation; and now, stadium chants. The timing couldn’t be worse for the White House. The World Cup is supposed to be a moment of national pride, a chance for the U.S. to showcase its global influence. Instead, it’s turning into a minefield.

Trump has yet to attend a single match, despite the tournament being hosted on American soil. Officials have cited scheduling conflicts, but insiders suggest the real reason might be the growing chorus of Epstein-related taunts. According to The Mirror, one Washington insider said, “For opponents of Trump, Epstein has become shorthand for a story that refuses to go away. Soccer supporters are seizing on that.” And they’re not letting up.

The chants have become one of the tournament’s biggest talking points, revealing just how polarizing Trump is outside the U.S. While he’s used to adoring crowds at his rallies, international football fans are a different story. They don’t care about political sensitivities, and they’re not afraid to make their opinions heard.

The issue is particularly acute with English-speaking supporters, whose chants are instantly understood by American audiences and TV viewers. As the tournament moves into the knockout stages, the possibility of England or Scotland making a deep run is only adding to the White House’s anxiety. The last thing staffers want is for Trump to hear those chants live on global television.

Will Trump even hand over the trophy at the July 19 final?

The situation has become so bad that many wonder if Trump will present the trophy to the winner at the final. Sources say broadcasters have been warned about the chants echoing through stadiums, and White House officials are reportedly working overtime to shield Trump from any potential embarrassment.

It’s a far cry from the warm welcome he received from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who awarded Trump football’s inaugural “Peace Prize” at the World Cup draw. FIFA claimed the honor was given to someone who had “taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and “united people across the world.” Just weeks later, Trump authorized military strikes against Iran, making the award feel even more ironic in hindsight.

Trump’s absence from the World Cup has been glaring. Host-nation leaders typically make appearances to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate their country’s role in the tournament. But Trump has stayed behind the scenes, sending administration officials like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to represent the White House instead.

Even that hasn’t gone smoothly. Kennedy was loudly jeered by portions of the crowd during the United States-Australia match in Seattle, with footage of the reaction going viral online. It’s a stark reminder that the political divisions back home have followed the tournament across borders.

The chants themselves are brutal

Fans aren’t holding back, explicitly mentioning Epstein’s crimes and Trump’s past association with him. One clip from a fan zone showed thousands of Australian supporters belting out a song that left little to the imagination. The videos have spread like wildfire, with millions of views across social media.

For Trump’s team, it’s a nightmare scenario. Unlike a controlled rally, where every attendee is vetted and the crowd is handpicked, World Cup matches are unpredictable. There’s no way to screen out fans who might start chanting, and there’s no way to control the narrative once it’s out there.

The White House’s strategy seems to be avoidance at all costs. If Trump can’t be protected from the chants, the thinking goes, he shouldn’t be put in a position to hear them. That means skipping matches and keeping a low profile during the tournament’s biggest moments. It’s a far cry from the image of strength and global leadership Trump has tried to project.

For now, the focus is on damage control. Staffers are reportedly monitoring social media closely, tracking which chants are gaining traction and which matches might be the riskiest for Trump to attend. The hope is that the controversy will die down as the tournament progresses, but that seems unlikely. If Trump does decide to make an appearance, he’ll have to face a crowd that’s already made up its mind about him.
