Marvel Fans Think Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Dropped a Massive Easter Egg

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 might have dropped the most exciting Marvel Easter egg in a while. Fans are rushing to social media to figure out what it all means.
Viewers who tuned-in this week were treated to a massive shock when Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) took literal aim at Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer). Charlie Cox’s moody hero tried to stop the villain from following through. But, he was too late as a glass shard ended up embedded in Vanessa’s temple.
As Daredevil swung himself and Bullseye out of harm’s way, Marvel fans noticed the seeming outline of The Watcher in the broken window. The shape is rather uncanny once you notice it. And, believe me, people are noticing it on social media. But, what could be just a lighting coincidence has spread across multiple different fan conversations. It’s an interesting thing to think about. Is Vanessa’s death one of those MCU canon events that a lot of these projects have included in recent years.
For the uninitiated, The Watcher or Uatu, is a part of an order of aliens tasked with observing all timelines across space. His job is supposed to be merely observing and not interfering. But, like in What If, sometimes that doesn’t happen! For fans watching at home, The Watcher showing up is visual shorthand for Something important just occurred. In X-Men 97, Eyes of Wakanda, and other Marvel Television animated projects, this has happened multiple times.
So, it would seem that Vanessa possibly dying is something that’s going to affect not just Daredevil’s story, but maybe the rest of our favorite heroes as well. With the near universal acclaim that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s has garnered, this could be a moment that looms large down the line.
The Watcher in Marvel TV Shows

One fan joked that The Watcher’s job is to monitor everything afterall, so this choice makes sense. Young Zuko mused that maybe Uatu just wanted to watch “peak.” Whatever the case may be, it’s fun to see the Marvel fandom actually enjoying something for once instead of giving into bad faith discourse arguments.
A while ago, the Phase Zero podcast talked to X-Men ‘97 director Jake Castorena about The Watcher showing up to observe our favorite team of mutants. Basically, he outlined the general idea of Uatu being present for very important events in the different Marvel timelines. It’s crucial to realize that The Watcher isn’t necessarily there to step in.
“Yeah, it’s a very subtle thing and, The Watcher only shows up for seminal, you know, timeline or sacred stuff. So, it’s definitely less about being there to support and help the X-Men. But, more or less, to just kind of be like, ‘Hey, you know, it’s got to happen.’ So, someone’s gotta watch this…”
The Watcher and The MCU rendered more largely in Daredevil

Castorena continued, “The Watcher is definitely part of OG canon because Watcher made cameos in the original show. (Which was also illegal at the time when they did.) Thanks Larry! [Larry Houston was the director of the original X-Men animated series] I’m not saying it is or it isn’t the watcher is from the MCU because stuff changes all the time.”
“As of this point, you know, the MCU, they have their own Watcher. They have that version of The Watcher,” he added. “And also, The Watcher transcends time, space and relevancy. So, that’s our Watcher. It’s their Watcher. It’s a Watcher.”
So, it may not be our friend Jeffrey Wright peeking in. But, there’s something weird going on in this season of Daredevil.
