TikTok creator Cassie Smith (@cassiesuniquepicks) posted a video that has gotten over 1.2 million views, showing what happened after she sent her husband to pick up their dog.

He Came Back With The Wrong Dog

“So my husband picked up the wrong dog at the groomers today,” she says, holding the it as she sits in her car.

At first, she says the groomer insisted nothing was wrong.

“I called them and told them that this was not my dog, and they were like, insistent that this was,” she explains.

At this point, she attaches a screenshot of a conversation she had with her husband.

“I also don’t know whose dog they gave me but this ain’t our dog,” the husband texted her, also attaching a photo of the dog hiding out in the corner of the car.

Smith says that staff tried to explain away the difference in appearance.

“They were like, her ears were matted or something, and this is why she looked like this,” she says.

But she immediately knew this was not her pet.

“My dog has a few missing teeth,” she says. “And this dog… it has all of its teeth.”

That’s when she decided to go back. “So I’m on the way back to the groomers now to get my dog,” she says.

The clip then cuts to her holding her dog, who is wriggling about.

“OK, so we got Annabelle,” she says. “This is definitely my dog… this is Annabelle.”

“Has this ever happened to anyone!?” she asked in the caption.

Viewers Joke About The Mix-Up

In the comments, viewers were both confused and amused by the situation, with many questioning how the mix-up even happened.

“Is your husband ok,” one person wrote.

“Didn’t expect the dogs to look so different LOL,” another added.

Some, however, took a more serious tone.

“I’d call a lawyer and file for divorce immediately,” a third wrote.

Smith later clarified what happened on her husband’s end.

“They gave him the dog and told him it was Annabelle had her collar on and all. He text me about it then came home still with that dog,” she wrote.

Do Dog Groomers Often Accidentally Switch Dogs?

It’s rare, but it can happen. In 2023, for example, a Virginia couple noticed that after picking up their golden retriever from the groomer, he seemed more anxious and was suddenly afraid of neighbors and the house cats, which was unusual for him.

They eventually realized it wasn’t their dog and brought it home, deciding to rely on a birthmark to identify him in the future.

Another dog owner on Reddit said on r/dogs that they ended up caring for a completely different dog, one that looked nearly identical to theirs, for four months before realizing the mix-up and getting their dog back.

Nowadays, groomers typically have systems in place to prevent this from happening, but mistakes aren’t impossible.
