Where in the world did all this water come from?
One family checked out of their Airbnb during some hot weather, and the host discovered water coming into one of his rooms from an unexpected source. On TikTok, Skeens Family Rentals @skeensfamilyrentals shared the story of wandering into a bedroom. Then, discovering a bedroom was completely soaked after a guest checked out. During the business owner’s investigation, he realized that the water messing up one room was coming from upstairs. There was a problem with his “minisplit” air conditioning unit, and now Skeens Family Rentals is staring down an interesting conversation with an Heating Venting and Cooling technician.
Jerry Skeens walks viewers through his reasoning around this problem. The host was confused about the flooding because the Airbnb doesn’t have a bathroom located directly above that bed. So, he takes the viewers upstairs into another room with a set of bunk beds, a foosball table, and the air conditioning unit in question. Jerry still has the towels under the split-level cooler. And, he thinks the people staying in his Airbnb must have had children.
His working hypothesis is that there were kids staying in the room, because of the bunk beds and the recreation equipment. They left the air conditioning on because it was 95 degrees. But, they also had the window open and that caused the condensation problem. The Airbnb host argues that the floor of this bedroom was completely flooded when he got up there.
How Did All of That Water Ruin the Airbnb?
As commenters rushed to point out that any HVAC leaks caused from the unit itself would be a homeowner issue, the poster clarified his stance. Jerry explained his side of it further, “If you watch the whole video, I don’t know who caused the problem. I mean, it could be the HVAC problem, like I said, I didn’t say that they caused it. My issue is that it was flooded upstairs.”
“So, not only had it been running like that for who knows how many days,” the Airbnb owner continued. “Their kids just sat up there, and played in water, and never told their mom? That means, they never even went upstairs to check on their kids! Their kids just sat up there and swam on the floor. And they did absolutely nothing.”
From his comments in the follow-up video, Skeens just wanted them to say something. He would clarify he didn’t charge the family anything extra for the water damage. The host even argues that he gave them 5 stars. But, he just wanted them to have the courtesy to let him know what had gone down. Skeens said that the Airbnb cleaner he hires informed him of the water everywhere and now they’ll have to deal with it.
Skeens added, “I mean, it’s like me renting someone’s Airbnb. And the bedroom’s on fire. And i’m like, come on, yall. You know, there’s a fire in there? Let’s just walk away.” No, it’s a fire! Like what are yall doing?”
