Woman Returns Home to Her House in the Woods. Then She Goes Out and Discovers Something in Her Yard: ‘I’m a Little Creeped Out’

There are more questions than answers.

It can’t be helped that we sometimes find things in our homes after long periods of being away. While we usually find critters making themselves at home, one woman claimed she found someone’s ID in her yard despite her remote location. Makeup artist Jenn Blum Rules (@jennblumrules) shared the incident in a video, which she said left her feeling “creeped out.”

In her video, which has since gained over 904,000 views, Rules said she returned home and looked around her house as she inspected the pipes and the garden. But when she checked the garage area, Rules claimed to have found an ID.

“So, this is real weird. I’m upstate, and I found my neighbor’s driver’s license in my yard,” Rules said. “I live in the woods in the country. And I was doing the property check, checking the downspouts, checking the garden. And I found it by my garage door.”

Rules’ home is isolated

While losing items isn’t an isolated incident, finding a random person’s ID around her house seemed to raise questions about how it got there in the first place. “And as you can see, my neighbors aren’t close,” Rules said as she panned the camera down her driveway. In the video, only a small shed, her house, and what appeared to be her car can be seen.

Why would my neighbors drivers license be in my yard? I think someone was snooping! I’ll report back after I confront them! #noseyneighbor

Rules claimed that, in order to get to her house, there had to be an “effort” on a person’s part because of her supposedly remote location. However, the mystery seemingly invited more questions than answers: “And why didn’t my security camera pick it up? Did they walk around? It must have fallen out of their pocket.”

Rather than jumping to conclusions, Rules wondered if her neighbor was just being a “good Samaritan” by checking on her property since they had power outages. But she claimed the entire incident still left her feeling “a little creeped out.”

“I gotta give it back today. So, what do I say?” Rules asked the viewers. She then gave some possible scenarios for when she meets the neighbor, although it was seemingly in jest. “Hey, we’re in my house. We’re in my yard. What were you doing? Do I just leave it on the porch and pretend I don’t know? Really weird, guys. I’m a little freaked out,” she said.

Viewers seemed just as confused as Rules about how an ID managed to get dropped in such a remote area. But many offered the makeup artist ways to broach the subject with the neighbor. “You definitely gotta mention it so don’t just leave it on the step. Just say ‘hey did you guys come by the house?’ and don’t show the license until they respond,” a viewer advised.

The mystery remains

Some theorized that the neighbor might have actually lost it and that the ID was brought by a bird instead. “Could be crows. They drop random stuff in my yard all the time,” a viewer said.

Update!!! The neighbor said she waa never in my yard. So bizarre! She says no clue when she lost it or how it got here unless someone found it and left it here. But, that seems like a long shot. Who knows? #noseyneighbor

Crows are intelligent creatures and are known to carry items out of curiosity. At times, they leave objects near humans when food is involved, and it is usually seen as a crow’s “gift.” According to NewScientist, crows are even smart enough to figure out how to transport two objects at the same time. So the possibility of a crow dropping the ID at Rules’ house isn’t far-fetched.

In a second video, Rules shared that she returned the ID to her neighbor, who supposedly claimed that they didn’t know how the ID landed at her house, as they didn’t go into her yard. “She said she doesn’t know when she misplaced it. She was very evasive… she said maybe it fell out of her pocket,” Rules said.

According to Rules, the neighbor denied being around her home, which left the makeup artist seemingly more cautious. However, she said she couldn’t do anything, and she was “just gonna have to move on.” In a final update, Rules shared that she bought more security cameras.
