‘Americans do not want this’: Zohran Mamdani Condemns Illegal Military Operations in Iran

President Donald Trump bombed Iran, accusing it of “failing to reject” its nuclear ambitions. Following the attack, Iran retaliated by bombing Israel and Middle Eastern countries that have US bases.
“The lives of American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war,” Trump said when he announced the military’s major operations in Iran.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani took to X to condemn Trump’s military action against Iran. Mamdani wrote, “Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.”

Similarly, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez posted a statement on X that reads, “The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions.”

Another X user mocks the outrageous situation at large.

The Candidate of Peace Starts a New War
During his presidential campaign in 2024, Trump presented himself as “the candidate of peace” at a time when Israel was launching unprecedented attacks against Gaza. He made a lofty promise to end the Russo-Ukraine war within his first 24 hours in office. Trump, during his victory speech, boasted that he is going to “stop wars.”
One year into his presidency, Trump brokered a ceasefire between Gaza and Israel in October 2025. But months into the ceasefire, and Israel has killed 612 Palestinians, according to Al Jazeera. The war between Russia and Ukraine is still ongoing, with no compelling ceasefire agreement in sight. While Trump established the Board of Peace, the international community remains skeptical of it.
Now, he’s front and center of a conflict—choosing to bomb Iran without Congress’ approval. Amidst the strikes, Iran’s state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had died.
Without a doubt, American lives will be lost in this war—many of whom voted under the pretense of Trump as the candidate of peace.
